So if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, I don't shy away from posting about my meals at Torchy's Tacos. This Austin gem used to be solely located in a food trailer downtown but has branched out to 6 additional brick and mortar stores around Austin. Known for their "trailer park" taco which is fried chicken, green chilies, lettuce, pico, and poblano sauce, their funky tacos are TO DIE FOR! You can order any of their tacos "trashy" which means it is smothered in their delicious queso. It is almost dangerous how close we live to Torchy's but we have learned to ration.
I had the pleasure of going to Torchy's with one of my gal pals, Kaylee, who was a Torchy's virgin. You order from a tatted up, mow-hawked server...duh it's Austin. I can officially say I have tried every taco on the menu (including the burrito) and I still have yet to choose a favorite. Here is what I went with last week.
Left- this was the taco of the month. I can't remember exactly what it consisted of but it was grilled salmon, black beans and avocado salsa
Right- this is the beef fajita taco. Jon and I have recently become obsessed with skirt steak which is exactly what is in this taco. Onions, peppers, pico and your choice of sauce.
Miss Kaylee ordered the following...
Top- fried avocado taco. Easily one of my favorites, smothered in refried beans, cheese and poblano sauce
Bottom- Mr. Pink (I will give you a second to chuckle). This taco features Ahi tuna, queso, cilantro and creamy chipotle sauce
If you ever have the chance to hit up Torchy's you must go for it! I think their may be one in Dallas but don't mark my words. Expect a multiple hour food baby following your kick ass meal, it is totally worth it!
On another note, Kaylee just graduated from Texas Tech University and will be teaching middle school math in Lubbock in the fall!! You go girl!!
(yep this was an awkward photo shoot at our table)
