We're leavin' on a jet plane...

First off, be sure to check out my first guest post over at The Vintage Apple!! I was so thrilled when Miss Michelle asked me to do a post while she was soaking up the sun/celebrity stalking in LA this week! I love that girl and her blog...you will too!

It is quite ironic that Michelle is in LA because my husband and I are going to LA next month! We have been itching for a weekend getaway and haven't been anywhere since our honeymoon in February. The year before we got married we took lots of little trips...Las Vegas, Chicago, Denver, Tahoe...but then had to save up vacation time for our week long honeymoon. With the help of cheap Southwest tickets (and Rapid Rewards points), we are able to travel more often without spending much at all. We have a couple places on the US map we want to go within the next year or so and LA is one of them. We found a great deal and decided to go for it!

The weather in LA is a good 25-30 degrees lower than here in Austin...we are counting down the days! So now I need your help. I haven't been to LA in years and we would love recommendations on what to do. Of course I want to do the celebrity house tours and every single website says they are a crock (booooo). So help a girl out!
  • Where should we eat? We aren't fancy dine-ers at all and love local, dive-y places
  • What should we do? Bus tours, walking tours, museums (not the boring kind!)?
  • Where should we go? Venice Beach, Chinese Theater, Ripleys Believe It Or Not?
  • Where can I find celebrities? I am hoping we can shimmy our way into the Kardashian's Dash store...how cool would that be?!

I am so jealous! I lived in LA for four years while I went to college at USC -- I loved it!
I really think it would be a mistake to go to LA without going to Roscoe's Chicken 'n' Waffles... it is the best! You absolutely must order chicken with waffles and eat them at the same time... it's divine. Best waffles I've ever had, hands down. It is a real "soul food" place and very L.A.
If you make it to Venice Beach (which you should), go to C&O's Italian restaurant half a block away from Venice Beach's main parking lot. I went there every year for my birthday, and every time my family came to visit we would go there. It is my all-time favorite Italian restaurant. You won't regret it.
Museums... I loved the Getty Villa, but I don't know if you'll find it boring. The Getty Museum is also amazing. Both are free, you just have to pay about $8 for parking. You just have to get tickets in advance for Getty Villa. I've also heard rave reviews on the La Brea Tar Pits, but never went myself.
I think you will love the Chinese Theater. If you go there is this pastry shop around the corner that is to die for, but I don't remember the name... I'll get back to you on that one.
Celebrities... if you go to Beverly Hills you have about a 100% chance of seeing somebody. I did every time. My favorite cafe there is Il Trem, but anything on that street is bound to have someone on their lunch break or shopping. They frequent Il Trem on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. :) The Hills stars really like Toast as well. Personally, I wouldn't waste time in Hollywood, but if you have to go to West Hollywood. Hollywood is actually really dirty and I never felt like there was anything to do.
Now that I've written you a novel I will stop. Message me if you have any questions! :)

I just LOVE your post at VA this morning! I got married in 2004 and though it ended up being an AWESOME day, A LOT went wrong too (as in the groomsman passed out during the ceremony, the cake flopped, yeah, a lot of other stuff too!) I try not to think about it and yes, eventually you get married anyway and people forget about the crazy stuff that happens!! Following you now and LOVE your blog! Your wedding photos are ADORABLE!

Hey! Feel free to shoot me over an email if you have any specifc questions about LA I lived there for several years! One great place to check out is the Farmer's Market at The Grove and Joans on 3rd (especially if you want to celeb spot on a weekday). The Kardashian's store is not really in the touristy part of LA. It's quite a ways away but would be doable especially if you are heading over to Malibu. I'd say pass on Ripley's because there is so much more fun things to do in LA! It's a great city but is sprawling so make sure you have a rental car if you want to maximize your time!! elle.lorraine22@gmail.com

I am also Kardashian-obsessed. I would like to be one for just a day. Just.one.day.

I LOVE LA! I wish I was going. I have not been in a few years! DEF go see the HOLLOYWOOD sign and walk along the star walk! I would suggest doing a hop on hop off bus tour too! So much fun!

You have to go to the chinese theatre, the wax museum is next door, the walk of stars IS the sidewalk, there's a shopping mall on the opposite side of the theatre and if you walk up the stairs (you can't miss them) you'll get a clear view of the hollywood sign. Santa Monica beach, pier, and promenade are SO fun. I wouldn't do a bus tour they are sorta ghetto. If you like shopping I recommend the Grove. Ok i'll stop I could go on and on.
Have an amazing trip. :-)

Oh and the Getty Museum, and the Los Angeles County museum of Art are amazing. There a yummy taco place called king taco but, it truly is in the ghetto.
