2012 has already been prosperous for us and I have a feeling it will only get better! Sunday night Jon reminded me that our wedding anniversary is in just a couple of weeks. How crazy is that?? Time flies when you are in a loving, happy marriage (I love you big mister). While on the topic of anniversaries, we talked about my 1 year blog-iversary coming up. February 25th, 2011, 20 days after getting married, I started this blog to chronicle my life as a newlywed, Christian woman.
Jon remembered that I had a goal of 100 followers by my October birthday and I more than exceeded that number. It felt so great! He said "how cool would it be to get 500 followers by your blog-iversary" and it got me thinking.
Why do I blog?
If I didn't gain one more follower for the rest of my life, I would be content. Numbers don't matter. My goals for this blog have changed immensely over the past 11 months and I couldn't be happier with the direction my blog is going. I now strive to be an example of a God-fearing, God-loving woman. I hope to reach those who are looking for guidance and understanding. I want to inspire and encourage. I also want to share my journey as a wife. About the ups and downs Jon and I face while building our marriage and growing our family. I also hope to make you laugh. In addition, I love sharing my recipes, quirky party pics, and showing off my cutie pup, Ernie.
My goal for this blog is continue to touch lives. If I get just 1 comment from a reader who was moved by a post or who sparked an idea from something I wrote, my job is done. I feel like God has given me a voice to be a leader and my blog is my outlet.
So blogger friends, why do you blog? What are your blogging goals for this year?

As I already told you yesterday via email, you are a huge inspiration to me. I'm so glad you blog and that I have had the chance to know you. I am excited for another year of reading your blog. xoxo
I love reading your blog. It makes me feel like I know your family better even though we live so far away! I only have like 6 blog followers so you are WAYYY ahead of me haha.
I am happy you blog! One of my New Year's resolutions was to read the Bible so I can better understand my faith, and you helped inspire that! I also, of course, LOVE all of the yummy recipes!!!
I blog as a form of therapy to keep me from taking my television and throwing it through a wall.
I blog because I miss writing! After years and years of writing English papers, I miss having regular assignments. :) (And I read blogs because I like people. There's so much that bloggers share that we wouldn't normally share in person, but that's what makes reading interesting!)
Love, Love, Love your blog!!! Don't change a thing :) And keep up those Ernie pics! Happy Almost-Wedding-Anny and Almost-Blog-Anny!
I LOVE this post! You are right on- though I still struggle sometimes with numbers. If we even make a difference for one person, it is all worth it!
So glad you blog! One of my big goals for blogging this year is to MEET more of the friends I've made through blogging. I love blogging because it gives me a voice, even if M is the only one reading. :) You inspire way more than one person a day, simply from your positivity!
ahhhh so happy for Chelsea...I will admit (wether she likes it or not) that when I saw this post, I immediately called her and she was still in bed. Her first response was "OMG! I HAVE NEVER WON ANYTHING BEFORE!!".
On another note, your blog is ALWAYS an interesting read and love the easy recipes you post because i almost always have the ingredients already, unlike most recipes I stumble across. Your love for the Lord shines through in your writing and so glad people are interested in reading a believers blog (you would be surprised now-a-days!) You and your husband are such a sweet family and I am happy to know you!
Ruthie, I love reading your blog! I too struggle with these same questions about why blog so I'm glad you touched on this topic. My main reason for blogging is first that I just enjoy writing and sharing my photos. I love having an outlet to document our experiences and if no one read it, that would be totally fine with me. The second reason is for friends and family to keep up with my husband and I since we've moved out of state, it's a great way to share our lives with them and make them feel connected. And third is being a part of this vibrant community of bloggers by sharing my own storywith them. It's funny most of my friends from high school and college are not married yet (my husband and I got married 3 years ago when we were 22) so although I'm still very close with all of them, I find that most of the bloggers I follow are young married women who can relate to what it's like to have a Christian marriage and the joys and challenges that go along with that. My husband and I just moved to Lake Tahoe (like last week!) and it's sometimes very difficult to meet friends after college, and I find that blogging is such a great way to connect with others especially in your 20's when you're going through so many life changes. It's nice to have this virtual community of support, and I want my blog to be a part of that. This year I'd love to grow my blog and increase my readership, but if that doesn't happen, that's ok too :)
I totally agree with you. It's easy to get wrapped up in numbers when you first start, and it's exciting to see those numbers grow, but ultimately you have to blog for yourself.
Your blog is fabulous Ruthie! I love that it's a little bit of everything all rolled into one :) I started blogging so my family (all live in a different state) could check up on us ~ I still do it for that reason, but I've met so many fabulous people in the mean time! My blog is my memory keeper. And by keeping my own memories, I hope I can inspire others to make some of their own ~ via words and actions. All while showing that I am far from perfect and laughing along the way :)
I blog our memories! To preserve them and show our kids something we didn't get to see in our parents!
I think I could give you a whole book of compliments and your head wouldn't swell one bit and that's why I think you are wonderful. Your an inspiration and I love ya all the way from Tennessee!
Awesome post, Ruthie! As you know, specific posts of yours have greatly impacted me, so thank you :) I'm so glad you started blogging, and I love watching your blog grow. I know it's not about the numbers, but it makes me happy to see you succeed. I love ya girl!! xo
I can't say anything different as to what anyone has already mentioned above, just for some odd reason as soon as I clicked on your page and read about you, your wedding, etc etc I felt a connection with you and we hadn't even verbally exchanged emails or anything yet! :)
I've always blogged for me, NOT for family or friends or for money or ads. All followers gained are purely out of just pure enjoyment I guess of my babbling? haha. I have no idea.
I blog to hear what others would say or do. Having people's opinions that you don't necessarily know in real life can be so helpful at times whereas "friends" we do know in real life can be so judgmental!
Never change a thing about your page! love ya just the way you are!
I am so thankful for your blog :) You continue to inspire me and bring my life extra smiles and laughs! I hope you know how many lives you are touching with every tap on that keyboard of yours! love you friend!
All I can say is I hope you don't stop EVER! Because I'm loving getting to know you... I love your thoughts on and reasons for blogging. Very helpful. I've been pondering this question all throughout the year. I seem to keep discovering new reasons for blogging as I go along. One of the best ones though is simply getting to know so many fun and inspiring women!!!
