An Incredible Story of Friendship and Companionship

I was forwarded this email from my mom and knew I had to share it on my blog...

Blind Dog’s Seeing-Eye Dog

Reminds me of the old adage: “If you want a true friend, buy a dog”.

Lily is a Great Dane that has been blind since a
medical condition required that she have both eyes removed.
For the last 5 years, Maddison, another Great Dane, has been her sight.

The two are inseparable.

Maddison leads Lily to wherever she needs to go –
faithfully - all day, every day.

Playing out in the open, Lily can sense Maddison nearby...
and Maddison, of course, makes sure of it.
They romp freely, enjoying the outdoors that every dog loves.

Caring, patient, non-judgmental, wonderful camaraderie
exists between these two dogs.

Humans could take a lesson.

People may forget what you said.

They may even forget what you did.

But people will never forget how you made them feel.

Be kinder than you might think necessary…

It morphs into an enjoyable habit.

Love this, Ruthie! It's so heartwarming to hear on this Wednesday morning :) And a great reminder to listen to Jesus' command to "love your neighbor"

I've seen this before but it is so touching every time!!! What a precious story! Makes me love my fur baby even more (if that's possible)! They are just such loving, giving, trusting creatures! And such an underserving gift to us selfish beings. You're right, we could learn a lesson from them!

It's stories like this that make me so excited about getting a dog. Mostly because I think they are the purest of souls :) Thanks for sharing. I had seen the image on Pinterest, but didn't know the full story!

Anyone looking to adopt should check out these dogs. They are very sweet. If I had the room, they would have come home a long time ago.

You just gave me goosebumps with this post, Ruthie. I love dogs SO much and have always thought that they have a totally kinder innate personality than us humans. I can't believe the dog's dedication to the other dog. It reminds me of relationships...sometimes one person might be "blind" to something so they rely on the other to help them "see". Also reminds me of the song Amazing Grace! Thanks for posting this! XOXO

So I see the picture and almost didn't open it. Why, because I blogged about this sweet story last year. I knew that if I saw it I would burst out and bawl and again, I did. This for me on my blog is one of my most favorite stories in the whole world and its funny how we received different messages from it.
