If the shoe fits

I've said it many times before that although I love picking out outfits, accessorizing, and looking cute, fashion is something that I don't stay current on. I still wear jeans from high school and rarely buy myself a new pair of shoes unless it is absolutely necessary. One thing that I can't gulp down is shelling out tons of money on a good pair of shoes. In college I remember buying cheapie shoes only to get blisters and sore feet after one wear. The worst, right?! You can imagine my excitement when Zappos approached me to review the new Clarks line of fashion-forward shoes. Yes, please!

If I am totally honest, I had a predisposed image of Clarks in my head... comfy, granola, sandals that didn't exactly match up to my style (although I sit here and have trouble coming up with words for my style?!). I stood in shock going through the Clarks line at Zappos. This isn't the same company I remember my dad shopping at when I was a kid!

I managed to narrow down my choices to these two beauties, and I am thrilled with my decision! Fall is here and boot season in Texas is right around the corner.

I feel super edgy in my black suede motorcycle boots. Last winter I splurged on skinny jeans in a rainbow of colors, and these comfy boots will be perfect paired with corduroy skinnies or even a skirt if I am feeling like a rock star.

Clarks Majorca Villa Boots

Last season I had been eyeing bootie style boots and am so pumped to get my hands on a pair this year! I love the way they look with a maxi skirt or knee length dress. I can see these being my go-to boots because of the sturdy heel and easy zipper.

Clarks Spye Belle Booties
When it comes to shoes, like I said, they have GOT to be comfortable. Now that I am a new mama, I need comfort over style. I can't be waddling around the grocery store with blisters on my heels while carrying Ford and juggling apples and milk cartons. The perfect thing about Clarks is that they are comfortable AND stylish. You don't have to chose between the two. Clarks offers such a large array of shoes for anyone from fashion-forward trendsetters to those who prefer the classic Clark shoe. And who doesn't love Zappos! Zappos makes it easy to shop for shoes in the comfort of your own home (confession I picked out my Clarks shoes during a 3am feeding with Ford) and they ship FREE both ways. You're lying if you haven't NOT bought something online because the shipping was too high. The shoes were sitting on my doorstep within days, and I actually had to return a pair that was too small and the correct size was here in a flash. I love companies with great customer service and a quick turn around. You can call (800)927-7671 or go to Zappos to purchase your own Clarks.

I LOVE those ankle booties!! I too thought that Clarks were pretty granola, but I have surprisingly found a few pairs that aren't (of course, I too am too cheap to buy them). Another brand you may want to look at is Born. They are SO comfortable and really cute :-)

I used to be all about style--didn't care how it felt as long as it looked good. Now I am much more into comfort, especially with shoes. If they don't feel wonderful when I slip my foot in, forget it!

Emily said...

Comfort, totally! I actually own a couple of pairs of Clarks boots - they're the best!

Deece said...

As a mother of three with my youngest being 16 months, definitely comfort. Those boots look great!

Andrea E said...

Definitely comfort before style.

Tricia said...

DEFINITELY Comfort!! I have tried to go with style, and I always end up with sore calves (too high a heel) or blisters all over my feet.

Kaity said...

I absolutely love shoes, but I'm also really picky about which ones I allow myself to buy. I always try to look for the crossroads of comfort and cuteness - I have to like the shoes, but I also want them to be comfortable and easy to wear, regardless of the style. I guess you could say it's a way to prevent me from owning every pair of shoes I set my eyes on! ;)

those ankle boots you picked out are super cute! I love the color.

Jessica said...

Comfort before style. I've had too many foot issues for it to be the other way around!

I look at the style of the shoe first, but they have to be comfortable for me to buy them! Living in downtown Portland now, I do a lot of walking so a high quality shoe is really important!

Brianne Bracco said...

LOVE your selections!! And I have come to that realization about shoes...they don't need to be ridiculously expensive, however, comfort is important and I really don't want to be having to buy a new pair of cheapy shoes every single season cause they don't quite hold up ya know?

Eileen said...

Comfort for sure!

Ruthie you're so cute!

Comfort comes first! I am totally flat footed and have narrow feet so they need to be comfortable. Plus I'm a mom and always chasing my two year old son around so it's not realistic to be in some crazy high heeled shoes or something!!

Because I spend a lot of time on my feet while I work, comfort is really important--but style is factored in also.

I love both of the shoes you picked out! For me, while I would love to say style first, I have to go with comfort. I am a 1st grade teacher and on my feet all day, so I need a shoe that feels good!

Those black boots are amazing! I need a pair! I'd have to say I was all about style before E came, now I'm lucky if I make it out of the house in sweats & sneakers every day! So clearly, comfort is winning!

I discovered Clark's a few years ago and now they're the only flats I buy! Before I thought Clark's were clunky and antiquated, but they've really updated their style. I just bought a pair of heels for interviews from them, too.

If anyone wants to read about my favorite ankle boots from Clark's, I wrote a blog post a few weeks ago:

http://greenmountainglobetrotter.blogspot.com/2013/08/ankle-boots.html

I almost wrote "comfort" but then thought "Who am I kidding? I won't wear something if it's not half-way in style." So I pick stylish comfort. :)

Comfort is most important to me! I won't buy ugly shoes, but I'm tall, I tend to maintain a pretty high weight for a lady and I have size-12 tootsies, so I have to give comfort top billing!

Abby said...

As a dumb 20 yr old, I chose fashion over comfort {and paid for it frequently.} Now that I'm 29 and wise, I go for comfort! I've had lots of pairs of Clarks for my work shoes because I can actually have a comfortable heel! I think I'd splurge on a pair of Desert Boots if I won though!

Great post! I have been thinking lately that the problem with narrow boots is that they are so hard to fit (especially for small-calved petites) that I become much less picky about the style as long as the boots fit properly. I love the way tall boots look, but the hunt for the right ones is such a bear. But Finally my friend suggest me a online US shop & my daughter's overall problem is been resolved.

I also have to thank Zappos for allowing me to process an exchange last week on the "comfortable" shoes that actually ripped off the back of both of my feet. Literally. Three times. Got a real pair of comfortable shoes and can't be happier!

Also, Clarks are amazing and I have the most comfortable shoes from them. They can't be purchased ever again (as the style is discontinued) so I hope my shoes last forever!

Style comes first. I will not try on a shoe if it does not catch my eye. But if it feels too uncomfortable I will not buy it.

I love those boots! I am more comfort, i love style but the tired achy feet in an hour, just not my thing!

Comfort comes first but I love finding a shoe that offers both comfort and style.

Comfort has to come first. I'm not about to spend my day limping around and wishing I had a different shoe.
