Bookworm & four eyes

All throughout high school, college, and before Ford was born I was an avid reader. Reading was one of my favorite past times and I often  read multiple books a month. I went through phases where I was really into certain authors or genres and once read 5 books on the Lacie Peterson trial followed by every single Emily Giffin book. Books just entrance me. They take me away. Don't get me wrong, I am fully satisfied in the life I live but reading gives me a glimpse into other worlds that I will never experience. It's so thrilling and exciting to read and I hate that motherhood has made me put it on the back burner. I can't place 100% of the blame on my son because I do still have time to myself during naps, but that time is often used towards writing, chores, housework, or just sitting on my butt not chasing after or tending to a baby. Since he's been born I've read a a handful of "baby" books (The Wonder Weeks, Love and Logic), a handful of Christian books, and only 2 pleasure books. Right now I am reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio and any free moment I have during the day, I pour myself into the book. I kind of forgot how much I love reading and how it makes me feel independent of the multiple hats I juggle during the day. I also forgot how easy it is to read on my Kindle. In fact, my sister let me in on a little secret. The public library offers eBooks. If you read my blog regularly, you'd know I love a good deal and what's a better deal than a free book on my Kindle. I am not above library booger books but Ford tends to enjoy ripping pages out of books and magazines these days. Don't want to risk that. The library doesn't have every single title in an eBook but they have quite a lot and it is the easiest thing to place a hold, download it to my Amazon Kindle account and have it magically appear on my Kindle. I told Jon, next time I am cranky or just feeling like I need something else to fill my time, remind me to read. I keep track of the books I want to read on my Pinterest board, Books to Read, wold love for you to follow along.

Reading on my Kindle is also something I can do while Ford plays. Let's face it, there is not much you can get done in terms of chores and projects when your toddler is awake. Ford is really good at playing in his kitchen or with his monkey toy and I like him to have that independent play time for himself, and for me. And when he's done, he'll give me a dirty look and demand my attention. Kids.

Oh and I forgot about my other baby boy who won't let anyone sit on the couch without throwing the ball for him. Luckily I am good at multi-tasking.

So last week I made up with my old friend reading and also got myself some new spectacles! Jon teases me because I refuse to wear contacts and really I should wear my glasses all the time. The thought of something touching my eye and sitting there all day, no thank you. It had been 2 years since I bought my last pair and it was time for a change. I used the Virtual Try-On System at Firmoo.com to find a pair of glasses that fit my face. I never had to step foot in a store! That is a major plus for anyone with a baby. My last pair of glasses were a bit smaller but I decided to jump on the hipster, big glasses trend and chose these. Most frames are between $20-$40 making glasses actually affordable! My glasses arrived within a week and I must say, they are pretty freakin' awesome.

I go through phases with reading. I will love it and then I won't touch a book for months. I just bought a kindle and it makes reading so much more convenient! I love downloading books and reading a few at a time :) You look great in your glasses!

Don't even get me started on reading. It is my #1 love. I will stay up WAY too late and read. I will neglect chores to read. I will forego work to read... I have a library card (and my bookworm heart exploded when Trent got his first card at 5) and a TexShare card that gets you free access to any other public library in the state of Texas. So I download ebooks from the Central Texas database and the Austin library. NERD ALERT!!! And I am blind as a bat and can't imagine wearing glasses all the time. Way worse than contacts touching your eyes. ;)
