Two on the go

I remember being so overwhelmed at the thought of taking my one baby out and about on errands and the grocery store absolutely terrified me! How the heck would I be able to be productive, shop, AND take care of a baby. And then I did it. Piece of cake. I actually got to the point where I loved taking Ford on my errands, he was my little side kick and entertainer and people gawked over him. It was the night that we put Lucy's infant car seat in the back of my car that the same fear I had a year and a half earlier started to stir in my chest. Who would I put in the car first? What about the summer when my car was blistering hot and I don't have a remote start? Would I use the double stroller or wear Lucy and put Ford in a cart? Gulp. Now that I am a few weeks into 2nd time motherhood and have taken the babies out on my own, I feel like I kind of have a system down (keyword: kind of). The most important thing for me is to prep beforehand. I've decided that each baby will have their own backpack (we have two monogrammed Oh Mint backpacks) filled with things specific to their needs. Ford's has mostly snacks, a sippy cup, and random little toys I can pop out if needed. Lucy's is more of a diaper bag...diapers, wipes, nursing cover, paci, extra outfit. I take those backpacks inside wherever we go. Along with the backpacks, I keep my Petunia Pickle Bottom backpack in the car stocked with Ford's diapers, a changing pad, diaper cream, hand sanitizer, extra Lucy stuff, extra snacks, etc. I had been worried about how to do a dual diaper bag and this is working great for us. If I know we are going out in the morning I will try to pack our bags the night before just because mornings are hectic. I lay out clothes for the babies, make sure the diaper bags are stocked, and organize the kitchen (bottles, my pump supplies, dishes, etc.).

Another thing that helps keep me sane is keeping my car organized. I've heard moms say that they would never let their kids eat snacks in their car seats and my eyes get big. Thanks to cheese sticks, bananas, and granola bars, Ford is a happy camper in the car. Snack time at home can be so distracting for Ford and the car is the perfect place for him to gobble down some food because there is nothing else to do. Since we do have lots of snacks in the car, trash piles up. My favorite baby product of late is the HappyChappy 2-in-1 Deluxe Car Trash Can and Organizer. No more stuffing cheese stick wrappers or snotty tissues in my center console. The HappyChappy is strapped to the back of my seat and I can easily reach around to throw trash out or grab non perishable snacks I can store in there. I plan on keeping Ford rear facing for a few more months but once he is forward facing he can help himself and throw trash away too (one of his favorite hobbies). It's designed to fit almost all cars/SUVs and requires no assembly... thank you for that! I empty it out at the gas station when I fill up each week and Jon is pleased that my nice car is no longer a trash can itself. 5% of all sales for HappyChappy products goes to charity which makes me love my little trash can even more! Still working on figuring this one out, especially with a toddler who throws everything. But I do keep a basket of car toys nearby so she can play with them while we take trips!

E is 7 months so my car is still clean and organized but I can see that this won't always be the case! Love the idea of an over the seat organizer.

I use a plastic bag and just throw all trash and odds and ends in there until I get a chance to dump it. Your solution seems much easier!

I totally need this!! We go on roadtrips all the time and the trash piles up so fast!! This would be the perfect solution.

This seems like a great way to keep a car clean and clutter free!

I don't keep it organized and NEED THIS!!! I do have pockets behind the seats that it where I store Turner's books and play phone...otherwise to me it looks like a hot mess in my car!

I'm all about some organization! This would be perfect! With an almost 1 year old we just do the best we can. I always try to clean out my car before and after we go somewhere and keep as little "junk" as possible in it!

I don't! It's always such a mess...largely because I don't have a place for garbage! It's already on my amazon wish list in case I don't win! :)

I am still working on figuring out how to keep my car organized, I'm having a problem with my older one taking out of the car what he put in, I feel like it's a constant battle.

Still perfecting this skill but I try to empty out trash, etc when I get home from each destination!

OK. First - the Mint backpacks are super cute! My car piles up with "stuff" throughout the week and I try to do at least a weekly clean out. I really need to do it daily though! Love the trash can/organizer duo.

I use a monogrammed backpack from Thirty-one for Lila's things. I haven't found a way to deal with the garbage yet, so this idea is great!

After six months I just now realized having a bag for each baby and then one joint bag works best as well. You are a brave mom traveling with two kids, great job!

Haha I don't! I need a better system. The worst is the banana peels that get thrown on the floor of the passenger seat. Drives my husband bonkers!!

Oh man. I definitely need a better system for organizing the trash in my car. HAHAHA! I usually clean it out when I fill up with gas, but between trips my front passenger seat gets a little cluttered!! This is genius!

I also love the backpacks for each kid idea. So smart! :) I've been stressing about what to do for a diaper bag. I didn't love our diaper bag last time, and actually stopped using it at about 8 months. I just fill my giant purse with a changing pad, diapers and wipes, a couple food pouches and a car or two. Pretty minimal, but it works great. Baby #2 is going to need more stuff for a while! HAHAHAHAHA

I have no tips, as my car is never in an highly clean state... I do, however, have a Thirty-one bag that stays in the car for library trips! :) Congratulations on your precious, new, little one!~

With a 2.5 year old a baby coming in a few months I have the same concerns you did. I love following your blog and the way you "do" motherhood. We snack a lot in the car too and this trash can seems like it would be a big help.

I keep a target bag in the car to throw garbage away to keep myself from shoving things in cup holders!

I need one of those for my new 7 week old grandson and his 2 yr old brother!

My car is a disaster between puffs all over the floor and toys strewn everywhere! This organizer seems great!

I have a few tote bags in my trunk that everything is shoved into. I need this!!

I don't! I need some help with this.

I have older kids so you think it would be easier, but they are actually worse than the little ones, best place for trash is apparently the floor or the seat pockets, grrr

I actually have a thirty one storage box in between the two car seats. But I love this option for trash!
