Our 1st wedding anniversary

All I can say is wow! Thank you so much for all the anniversary love yesterday. We got so many emails, phone calls, comments, texts and tweets. A marriage is not only successful if you love one another but also if you are surrounded by the love of family and friends. Thanks for making us feel so special :-).

The whole weekend was perfect :-)

We started off Saturday with a yummy brunch downtown before visiting the hotel we got married at. It was our first time back since Feb. 5th, 2011 and it was so nostalgic. We brought our tripod and took tons of pictures, trying to recreate some from our wedding. A woman asked if we were doing engagement pictures and we told her it was our anniversary weekend and she was excited because her daughter was getting married there that night.

Where we did our first look last year...

Holding on of our wedding photos...

We want to take a picture of us next year of us holding our wedding picture this year :-)

We then headed to Barton Creek Resort in the Austin Hill Country for a stay-cation. We explored the hotel and were spying on the 2 weddings that were being held that afternoon. I got the most amazing massage and was so relaxed afterward...it was awesome! We also played a lifesized game of chess. I've never played before and Jon loved teaching me. We have a nice set at home that we want to start playing (NERD ALERT!)

We shopped around and had dinner at the Hill Country Galleria nearby. The rest of the night we spent in total relaxation. We drank a bottle of champagne that we were given on our wedding night last year and dug into our year old wedding cake topper which was DELICIOUS (we ate more yesterday and will probably finish it this week!).

We also gave each other our gifts...which I am going to share tomorrow! I took lots of great instagram pics but didn't want to make this post too long...so be sure to check back tomorrow for that!

Sunday morning (our real anniversary), we woke up, had breakfast in bed and were lazy bums until checkout at noon. It was perfect. We went to the late service at church which was amazing. We sat in the 2nd row which never happens since we normally go to the busiest service and it seemed as if God was really speaking to us on that special day. My parents watched Ernie for us this weekend so we went to pick up the chunk and got to hang out with my grandparents a bit who just arrived from Chicago (luckily we will get to see a lot of them over the next month). Unfortunately I was having really bad heartburn and we had to go home. I spent the afternoon curled up in a ball trying to calm the pain. I get heartburn every so often but never this  bad. Luckily it subsided long enough for us to go to a nice dinner downtown. We went to Austin Land and Cattle and let me tell you...if you don't plan on watching the Super Bowl, it is the perfect night for a nice date. Once again, my heart burn got so bad that we had to box  up our huge steaks and go home. I was in tears and told Jon that if anything happened to me, I loved him...yep it was that bad. We spent the rest of the night watching our wedding video and the entire ceremony, cuddling and watching the Puppy Bowl (we did end up watching the end of the Super Bowl).

We decided that we were going to try and make a video every year on our wedding anniversary so we could watch it the next year. We sat on the sofa (in sweats) and made a video recapping the last year, talking about how we celebrated, and what we are hoping for in our 2nd year of marriage. It was really fun and I look forward to watching it in a year from now! The Lord has been so good to us this year and we will continue to invite Him into our lives and into our marriage. 2011 was a huge year for us but we are thinking 2012 could be even bigger. I am the luckiest lady alive to get to spend the rest of my life with Jon. 1 down and forever to go.

{One year}

One year ago today....

I became Mrs. Hart

"With this ring I give you my heart
I promise that you will not walk alone
May my heart be your shelter
And my arms be your home"

& I thank the Lord every day for sending Jon to me

I can't say that February 5th, 2011
was the best day of my life...because
everyday being married gets better and better
(but it was incredibly special, beautiful and perfect)

Jon I love that I have to seek our Father to get to you and I love that you trust in Him with all your heart. I love that you can make me laugh at the drop of the hat and I love your silly songs. I love that you are double my size and I feel so protected in your embrace. I will forever be grateful for your selfless heart, beautiful eyes, humor, motivation and intelligence, and most importantly, your love for me. You are more than anything I could have ever imagined in a husband, more than anything I thought I deserved. I love you!!

I can't wait to see what God has in store for our 2nd year of marriage....

Cheers to a lifetime of love

My Bachelorette Party!

So I thought I was done with wedding related posts but how could I forgot my bachelorette party?!

If you recall, I was married on February 5th, 2011 and even in Texas, it was cold. My bachelorette party was the weekend before our wedding, January 29th, and it was perfect. When my sisters and bridesmaids asked me what I wanted to do, I said I just wanted to have everyone together. I had no desire to get sloshed on the infamous 6th street in the freezing cold weather and I actually wanted to remember my night!

We gathered at my parents house in the early evening where my two sisters (maid and matron of honor) decorated and planned some games. Everyone wore pink and I loved it (I've done this at another bachelorette party and it was SO fun!). I will let the pictures do most of the talkin'

It felt like a night in college, all up in my sisters room in front of the mirror primping and getting ready. My beautiful "big" Ashley (who is famous in our sorority for her hair do skills) outfitted the group with "bumps" and glam eye shadow.

The "Fanning" girls (my maiden name)

This game cracked me up...Pin The Long on Jon. Funny and disturbing at the same time! Please disregard my flesh colored straw ;-)

I was surprised and so excited when the girls showered me with gifts to use on my honeymoon (get your mind out of the gutter, it was a non-lingerie party since I had one in the fall)

Other gifts included an adorable cover up dress, a monogram necklace, scrapbook stuff, and an underwater Flip camera case!

We headed to a nice area of North Austin called The Domain. It is an outdoor shopping area with restaurants and nice condos. We had yummy cocktails and dinner at NoRth which is modern Italian cuisine. They also have locations in Arizona, Colorado and Kansas.

Yes that is a baby in the pic!! If you can believe it, Mary Amanda had given birth weeks before my bachelorette party and still managed to hang with us! Logan wore a onesie that said "I HART RUTHIE". How cute is that. Oh and her husband was hosting Jon's bachelor party that same day at his family's farmhouse outside of Austin. Who says the fun ends after you have a baby?!

We headed downtown to a premier comedy show called Ester's Follies. It is hysterical! It was my first time attending and it was so much fun. It consists of magic, music and parodies of current events. I had walked by the window many a times on 6th street and am glad I finally went! It is definitely a classic Austin to-do!

The girls with some of the cast members (awful lighting!)

Now how did these 7 ladies end the night? We headed back to the house and ended up staying awake until after 4am. Laughing. Drinking. Chatting. Eating Whataburger. It was exactly what I wanted for the night. Great conversation with my best friends. It was the perfect way to spend my last weekend as a single lady.

The next morning, with just a few hours of sleep, we had a great breakfast at Waterloo Ice House. I remember thinking that Sunday "OMG. Next Saturday I will be married. No more Saturday nights as Ruthie Fanning!". It was such an exciting feeling!

Question: if you are married, what did you do for your bachelorette party? Or what is your favorite memory from attending a bachelorette party?

Sweet Texas Romance

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being interviewed by a Phoenix based event rental company about our wedding. My blog was found by one of their bloggers who wanted to share my wedding on their website. The article was posted yesterday (August 8th) and I wanted to share it with you! Click the link below to read about our special day!

Our first look

I've shared every single aspect of our wedding from the ceremony details to my wonderful wedding showers but today I wanted to share pictures of us. Me and my husband on our wedding day...

Jon and I chose to see each other before our wedding ceremony and I am so glad we did! We chose to see each other beforehand for a couple of reasons. The first is because we wanted to utilize the natural light for pictures (our wedding was at 5:30pm in the wintertime) and also get as many pictures as we could so we could enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests. I did not want Jon's groomsmen to see me before so we waited to take wedding party pictures until after the ceremony. The second and most important reason was this. I wanted the first time that I saw Jon on our wedding day to be a moment shared between us and not our entire wedding. Seeing Jon before walking down the aisle made the butterflies disappear. I was so confident and ready to marry him. I will never forget those precious moments and the look in his eyes when he saw his bride. Our photographer and videographer were the only ones present (although my bridesmaids and parents watched through the windows and I also saw a few hotel guests peeking inside their rooms).

Our photographer positioned us in the beautiful courtyard of our venue and counted to three so we could turn around at the same time...

I love looking at all of the pictures from our wedding but our first look pictures are my favorite. They are so full of love and emotion, you can see the excitement in our faces.

We had decided that we wanted to save our first kiss for the altar and you can see in our wedding video trailer Jon going in for the kill and me shaking my head :-)

He did bargain for a kiss on the cheek

I hated saying goodbye but loved the fact that the next time I saw Jon we would be standing before our friends and family becoming man and wife.

Next week we will be celebrating 6 months of marriage! Time flies when you're in love.
