Hart family update

I haven't done a life update lately so I figured I'd fill you in on our exciting life! Haha. Between nursing, changing diapers, taking walks, and occasional naps, things have been pretty calm around our house. We finally feel like we have our head above water and are starting to figure out what Ford likes, doesn't like, etc. He likes eating... doesn't like napping! There have been days where we have been go, go, go... errands, playdates, church... but then many days where I don't leave the house and I wouldn't change it for the world. Earlier this week Jon asked me if I still loved my new "job" and without skipping a beat, I said yes! Man oh man does motherhood change you and humble you. At times feelings of defeat cloud my heart but then I am redeemed when I get a 2 hour nap from my little guy in the ergo and I have a chance to vacuum, mop, and clean all the bathrooms (true story... I was so darn excited #momlife). The crazy thing about motherhood is that no day brings the same thing. Luckily Ford has been consistent at night and I have been getting lots of rest but each day we wake up not knowing what is in store for us, and that is the beautiful, exciting, frightening thing about being a mommy.

This week Ford's gramma and grampa great are in town loving on him and being such a help for me! I look at the way we love our baby boy and it rocks my world knowing that so many people love him just as much. This little guy just has no idea.

Guy day with papa and uncle James

Daddy cuddles after a bottle

Ford is quite the messy eater so we've started using bibs that happen to be bigger than him... too cute

Some days the only way he will nap is on my chest... and I don't mind one bit

Our little half Aggie half Baylor Bear ready for the Bama game last weekend

Rocking the baby mank

For the most part Ernie ignores Ford but then will go cuddle right next to him at times

Daddy did some shopping for Ford this week #sicembears

The ladies sure do love kissing Ford!

In other Hart family news...
  • Ford has a bad case of cradle cap and we are using adult shampoo to try to get rid of it... poor guy
  • We got down all of our Halloween/fall decor and I am getting antsy to put it up. Our Halloween party will be quite different this year with a little guy
  • 6 days until Influence!
  • I have my 6 week postpartum checkup on Tuesday and am anxious to see what my doctor says. I've noticed that the more I get back to normal living (lifting things, bending over, etc) the more my incision bothers me. C section mamas, how long (if ever) did it take for your incision to feel normal?
  • I went to Costco yesterday and Ford was due to eat so I grabbed a display camping chair and fed him and the end of an aisle. I am so shocked that more stores/places don't have nursing rooms thse days!
  • Ford is a talking machine these days! Cooing and babbling... cutest thing ever! I've managed to get some on video but you know how it is when your baby does something cute, and then stops when you bust out the camera.
  • I've started taking daily videos of Ford since he is changing and growing so fast! Major cuteness below

Haha, too funny! I can TOTALLY relate to the getting excited over cleaning the house, vacuaming, esc. My daughter is 13 months and I still feel the same way. :)

Ford is a handsome little man!

Good for you for nursing at Costco like that!
I had a C-Section with my last baby (he's 2) and my scar still bothers me. It itches like crazy. Part of it though, is that I have extra skin on my tummy that kind of hangs over, which I'm sure you don't have, so hopefully yours will stop bothering you soon!
Ford is SO cute!

Adorable Ruthie!! I miss all those little things that Turner did just a few weeks back! Beautiful family!!! Cradle cap will go away...we just rubbed it with shampoo and a wash cloth during baths and then brushed it and it eventually went away.

Can I just say that I LOVE Ford's hair? My oldest son's hair did the exact same thing when he was little!

He is SO cute, and looks like both of you guys!

As for the incision, I'm not a mom, but I had another abdominal surgery five years ago. It took awhile for them to feel better, but they still itch occasionally. I think they hurt for a couple months.

My little guy is 12 weeks old and although my incision hurts way less that it used to, it is still 100% numb and swollen. Also, when I bump it against things, like the kitchen island or something that height, it KILLS! My ob told me that it could tinge at times forever, due to nerve endings and whatnot. Lucky us, lol!

I was a stay at home mom once we had our second child and it was the best job I ever had !! It can be exhausting and frustrating at times, but it is all worth it !!
I am so happy you are all settling in to a new routine.
I agree, I also nursed all four and it was very hard out in public, especially back then, our kids are 24 to 33 years old and I had to pump for trips out usually. I am glad it is better these days, but there is still a lot of work to be done to encourage nursing moms !! It sounds like you found a great solution and I applaud you finding a way to stay in the store and still feed your little guy !!
I am not sure I would have been able to do that when I was nursing, so I really admire you finding a way when many of us would have left !!! If enough nursing moms do that , then maybe the stores will get the hint !!!!

Ford is the cutest baby ever.. What is cradle cap? I am usually pretty up to date on baby terms, (kind of, ha!) and that is one I don't know.

Gaaaaah! He is sooo cute with his lil mohawk hair! Hope his head starts healing up soon and the shampoo works.

Go you nursing in Costco like that! When my son was about Ford's age I used a couch in a store to nurse him and I felt so good about it. Have you tried olive oil on his cradle cap?

I honestly can't remember how long it took for my incision to stop hurting, but I know it was definitely still sore at my 6 week check up. It's really weird- I'm 18 months post-baby now and it's still numb!

And good for you for nursing him when/where you needed to! I agree, more places should accommodate nursing moms.

Such an adorable little guy!
I'm a C-section I had extreme stinging pain for about 8wks then it slowly went away....but then the aching and shooting pain started along with itching straight through my son turning one. He is now 4yrs old no pain BUT the left side of my incision is STILL NUMB!!
And kudos to you for nursing in Costco I never felt comfortable....anytime my son was ready to eat I'd either leave or just go to the car.

So glad that things are working out, and yay for him being pretty good to you guys at night! In addition to there not being more places for nursing moms (the only place I have seen is at our church), I'm quite shocked when I go in a public bathroom and there is NO changing station. I have had to change Kendall on the sink counter top before. At least it made it easy for me to wash my hands!

Aw I love those videos, and can't wait to hear how your appt goes!

Found you through another blog! Love your posts & i love your little ones name! Is motherhood not the best gift EVER??

Dana said...

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but I can't believe how much Ford looks like YOU! Keep it up with the videos...I took some when my guy was little and is just a blast to go back and look at them now. And (10 years later) my boy loves watching them, too. It makes my heart ache. :)

another thing to try for his craddle cap is coconut oil!

My daughter had pretty bad cradle cap as well, and this product helped clear it up a lot:
-I know it's sometimes annoying as a new mom to be bombarded with new products, so you can check it out, or not. No big deal :)

Oh my! Ford is getting so big, so fast! He is such a cutie. I am dying over you grabbing the Costco display chair. You go Mama! Hang in there with the incision. I actually healed super quick, but it still bothered me from time to time until about 3 months. Take it easy and don't lift too much. Easier said than done, I know!

Maria said...

I was like you... would nurse anywhere because my baby had to eat. :) I don't know why more places don't have nursing rooms to accommodate moms and than some other places go above and beyond. My friend said you can get free diapers at IKEA in the bathroom!
My sitter used baby oil to help get rid of cradle cap on all three of my girls.
Good luck!!!
ps... Ford is the cutest little guy!

So cute! I love when you start feeling like you're able to accomplish things. For me, I had twins a year ago (yay 1st Birthday!) and I felt like I was drowning until about 10 months, so that's awesome that you're starting to keep your head above water!

As far as the section goes, mine still itches sometimes, and every now and then one of the kids will step on my scar and it hurts. I have no clue when it won't feel weird anymore.

Just recently found your blog and I'm enjoying reading it because I'm in a similar place in life (just had my second baby in July so my days are currently revolving around breastfeeding, diapers, etc.).Love that you fed him at Costco like that!! My first son had cradle cap pretty badly and we just used some cradle cap oil (I think Target or any store sells it) and put a little of that on his scalp and lightly brush at it with a baby comb and it will scrape it all right off. I would do it with his baths and it would stay clear for a few days and then I would do it again when it started coming back. Eventually all their funky skin issues clear up.

So much cuteness in one his milk coma face, Ernie sitting by him ready to play fetch and of course his Aggie gear! Ha!

Ford is a cutie! Go you for nursing in the store! I usually do it in the car... But I wish most stores had a nursing/mother's room to use!
