Lucy 2 months

Our little chick turned 2 months old on Saturday and it's hard to imagine our life without her! She smiles at the drop of the hat and wants to talk SO bad! Ford is smitten with her (and she with him), I can't imagine a better bond between my babies. The past 9 weeks have flown by and I find myself wanting THIS time right now to stay still. Life is good and here is our baby girl's 2 month update.

Little Miss scratched herself and it bled the morning we took her pictures. It was a mix of a very active baby and a mama who forgot to cut her nails.

  • We had her 2 month well check yesterday and girly pie was showing off! Smiling and cooing and giggling for the doctor. Even holding her head up during tummy time. She got her 2 month vaccinations and screamed while they happened but calmed right when I scooped her up. Shots are much harder on mama but SO worth it!
  • Weight 11lb 7oz (53rd %)
  • Height 23.5 in (88th %)
  • Head circumference 40.5cm (96th %)
  • Wears 0-3 month and 3 month clothes and size 1 diapers.
  • She lost a little of hair up front but its coming back. The rest is dark and thick, I can't wait for it to grow! She has pretty big blue eyes and pretty much every time we look at her, Jon and I say she is the most beautiful baby girl we've ever seen. We may be biased but she is gorgeous!
  • Like I said above, she is a smile machine. She is so easy to make smile and has the sweetest, gummiest, smile and even blushes. She acts like she wants to talk so bad, I know she'll be babbling before we know it! She also almost-laughs. I think she is ticklish (like me) and when I tickle her she let's out a grunty laugh.
  • Her nicknames are baby girl, little girl, peanut lady, Chiquita girl, turtle lady (yes we call our kids weird things)
  • Biggest news of the month is that she is officially sleeping upstairs in her room! Week 7 was tough, she would wake up to nurse and want to stay up for an hour and get pissed if I put her in her bassinet. She never liked to be swaddled so sleeps in a Halo sleepsack (free arms, just like Ford is in) and my mom suggested she may hate how closed in the bassinet is. My goal had been to move her by 8 weeks and we did a few days before and it is going great! She loves having her own space to bop around in her crib and sleeps like a champ. She only gets up once in the night to eat so I'm not running up and down the stairs. Our room is baby free, yay (with the exception of 2 baby monitors haha).
  • We've been trying to follow the Moms on Call schedule and she goes to bed around 8:30, sleeps 7-8 hours, nurse for 5-10 minutes, then sleeps 3 more. Last week in NOLA she was sleeping through until 5am, would nurse, and go right back to bed. This is a happy mama! She sleeps in cotton sleeper and cotton sleepsack. Yay for no transition out of the swaddle.
  • Also big news, I have stopped pumping! Lucy is EBF and was taking a 4oz bottle of breastmilk in the evenings but pumping was getting too hard with Ford and then Jon traveling, etc. I slowly weaned off pumping and started her on Similac for Supplementation for her bottle. She did NOT like it mixed with BM so we went straight to the formula. She is a bottle champ, unlike brother.
  • Lucy nurses every 3 hours during the day and longer stretches at night. She is very quick and usually nurses on one side which is new for me. Ford would nurse anytime I let him for however long I let him and Lucy doesn't want anything to do with nursing unless shes's hungry. It's kind of nice not having a baby attached to your boob cluster feeding every night.
  • This may be TMI but I want to record for my own sake but we had sex exactly 8 weeks postpartum. I wrote an article for MOMquery a couple of months ago about postpartum sex and this time was way better, phew. My doctor prescribed me Estrace and I highly recommend it for breastfeeding moms. I am also on the mini pill... no Irish twins for us please.
  • Another first this month, I did my first real workout in about 6 months. I had really bad sciatica with Lucy and stopped working out around 28 weeks so I was expecting to be quite sluggish. I did a Tone it Up Girls HIIT workout and it kicked my butt. I was sore for days but I am excited to get back into working out and plan on doing short, at home workouts when I can fit them in.
  • Lucy took her first plane ride at 8 weeks old (6/23/15) and spent a few days in New Orleans. She walked Bourbon Street and got kicked out of a bar, woot! You can read about our trip here
  • Lucy got in the pool a few times this month and was really relaxed. She also loves her baths so I think she will be a water baby.
  • Ford and Lucy now bathe together in our big garden tub and we are using the Angel Care bath seat which is a life saver if you have two little ones. Ford is ADORABLE with her and washes her and entertains her. She is all smiles.
  • She hates the hiccups
  • She loves her Wubbanub and is getting better at keeping it in on her own. We try not to use it a lot, mostly in the evenings when she is kind of fussy. It is so nice because it gives her something to do but we aren't using it to sleep so she doesn't get attached.
  • She has been SO active the last few days, kicking and moving her arms non stop. She loves her playmat and has started batting at the toys under there and in her carseat.
  • She had a horrible bout of baby acne and it is finally clearing up. We tried everything to get rid of it (coconut oil, breastmilk, Aquaphor) and it just takes time. She still is so beautiful!

Our Father's Day

We spent last week in New Orleans (post here) so I am a little behind on blog updates but better late than never. I loved celebrating my husband and dad last Sunday, two incredible fathers that I would love Ford to model one day. Jon is such a hands on daddy- diapers, baths, bottles, middle of the night wake ups, baby wearing, fort building, he is there. How do I survive with 2 under 2? My husband is the answer. He loves me fierce and points us to Jesus. He cheers me on when I have crazy ideas and appreciates the work I do as a stay at home mama. Parenthood is crazy and fun with Jon and I love *almost* every bit of it.

We spent the day at my parents house with plans of a pool day and brunch but the rain was wild. One minute it was a torrential down pour and the next it was sunny. Ford wasn't too happy about the rain ruining our day. I love living in the same city as my parents and getting to see them so often, it is a huge blessing! Cori, Jacob, and Embry were in town from Dallas and the kiddos had fun playing in the rain. Ford and Lucy had their first bath together on Father's Day (picture at the bottom) and I may have cried watching how smitten they are with one other. Being a parent is pretty much the best.

Lake time

Last weekend we spent Saturday with our missional community group at one of their families lake houses. If you've been following any Texas news, you'd know we've been having some crazy weather! A 7 year drought left the beautiful lake that is in our neighborhood basically a puddle and now it is almost full! I guess this is an "El Nino" year so that explains the massive amounts of rain. Back to our weekend. We've been blessed by this group of people in our lives, they were literally an answered prayer to a 3 year long prayer Jon and I have been praying. Brothers and sisters in Christ that live in our neighborhood that we can laugh with, cry with, pray with/for, bitch to, rejoice with, and walk towards Jesus with. We are a growing group with a baby joining us in a few short weeks, it is such a blessing to be able to raise our children alongside of people who love Jesus but are also FUN! It kind of felt like we were at summer camp, getting to spend an extended period of time with our friends rather than just 2-3 hours once a week. The rain didn't stop us from having a great time swimming, eating, drinking (Moscow Mules were the weekend drink), and getting to visit a nearby barn with horses and mini ponies. The kids were in heaven! Ford has never really seen a horse in real life and he thought it was so cool!

The Big Easy

If you follow me on Instagram, you'd know that Lucy and I tagged along with Jon to NOLA this week for a business trip. Jon has business there about once a quarter or so and I have been wanting to join him, solely for the food and music scene. Last year he earned a companion pass on Southwest so I can fly for free with him any time he flies SW so basically the trip cost us nothing. I'm not ready to leave Lucy overnight yet and she's the perfect age to tag along so we thought, why not? Ford stayed with Mimi (and of course thoroughly enjoyed himself) and it was so nice to get away for a few days. A few takeaways from our trip: New Orleans is hella HOT. There are a lot of disgusting strip clubs that made me so sad. I would probably never bring kids there again (love you baby girl, ha!).

We'd heard that you can take babies into bars that served food but that wasn't the case on the French Quarter. We were so bummed to get kicked out of places and didn't get a chance to listen to any jazz (Jon's favorite place is Fritzel's on Bourbon). One of the biggest reasons we love to travel is food. We love eating the local cuisine and our trips pretty much revolve around restaurants. New Orleans did not disappoint. We ate beignets, oysters, shrimp, Po Boys, and a lot of Cajun/Creole cuisine. Thinking back about some of our favorite trips have been when the food is really good (if you've never been, go to Charleston, SC... the food is LEGIT!). So Jon spent the 1st day in meetings and Lucy and I explored on our own. We had a lovely ladies lunch, shared an order of beignets from Cafe Du Monde (and by shared I mean I ate all 3 and she got them later when she nursed), and took a 3 hour bus tour of the city. This was my favorite part because I love the touristy/history stuff. I was by far the youngest patron on the tour and Lucy and I had the back row of seats on a air conditioned charter bus. It was the perfect way to see the city and get out of the sweltering heat. My favorite part was visiting St. Louis cemetery and learning about why the tombs are above ground and how they are operated today. I took Jon back the next day because I knew he would love it. Day 2 we visited the Audubon Aquarium as a family (we always go to a zoo or aquarium on any trip we go on), drove down St. Charles Avenue gawking at the beautiful homes, and ate, ate, ate. We had planned on walking around Frenchmen or Magazine Street to see if we could find someplace that would let our baby inside but it was pouring down rain most of the night. Boo. Bourbon Street was a trip. Reminded me if a dirtier 6th street, mixed with some Vegas. My heart sank as we saw strip club after strip club with girls younger than me flirting with drunk guys trying to make a buck. As fun as the city is, there is so much brokenness and it made me so sad. Jon said he felt like such a dad because he realized how loud it was on Bourbon when we strolled through at night with Lucy (he normally stays ON Bourbon Street when he's there). We stayed at the beautiful Le Meridien and Lucy and I took a few swims in the rooftop pool. I think I may be the only person in all of history who left New Orleans feeling rested and relaxed! Lucy slept 9 hour stretches when were there and was the easiest baby ever so this mama is happy. Jon and I agreed that next time we will leave both kiddos at home and enjoy more of the adult-scene. Thanks for the fun (and the 5lbs I gained) NOLA!
