40 weeks

Thoughts: well here I am, 40w1d pregnant, never thought I would be overdue! Yesterday was our due date and I talked about how I am surprisingly calm just very excited! It is a weird feeling knowing that in 3 hours or in 3 days, he could be here. 9 months flies by yet the last days drag on. I know the waiting is so worth it because I will most likely be cuddling my son in a week!

This was my pregnancy app yesterday, yup... 10 months prego over here!
Doctor appointments: we've actually had 2 in the past week...
  • Wednesday 7/31, 39w2d I woke up and had a steady flow of liquid leaking for about 20-30 minutes. I had heard that you hear a sound and feel a gush when your waters break but the doctor wanted us to come in. We were monitored on the NST and I had a few contractions but the fluid came back negative for amniotic fluid so it was most likely cervical fluid (not pee because it was cloudy). I was still 2cm and 70% effaced so he did a light membrane sweep. I did end up losing my entire mucus plug between that appointment and Friday (confirmed this yesterday) but still no baby!
  • Yesterday 8/5, 40w due date appointment! I was monitored on the NST and had a few big contractions but nothing consistent. We did an ultrasound (more below) and another cervical check. Cervix is ready to go at 75% but no change in dilation... boo! He did a pretty rigorous membrane strip which hurt pretty darn bad and said he'd be surprised if I don't go into labor on my own in the next 2 days! We go back tomorrow morning for another NST and cervical check and we can decide when to schedule induction, which is totally up to us (we could have done it last night if we wanted but I really want to try on my own). The latest we will go is early next week which is good to know we won't be pregnant forever!
Baby: we have a chunker on our hands! It was so fun to see him again since our last ultrasound was 4 weeks ago. He has the cutest lips and chubby cheeks, counting down the days until I can kiss them. According to the u/s measurements, he was a whopping 8lb14oz! I couldn't stop laughing but our doctor said if he was betting money on his weight, he'd say an 8lb baby (he said it again while checking my cervix and squeezing around my tummy... supposedly he is good at guessing). Fluid levels looked great and my placenta is healthy so there is no reason we can't wait it out a few days to see if we can do this on our own!

Weight: lost a little this week, officially gained 29lbs since my 6w appointment but really 24-25lbs from what I would normally say my pre pregnancy weight was. It is 100% normal to lose weight at the end because baby isn't growing and there isn't much room!

Symptoms: Braxton Hicks, a few real contractions, and random aches/pains. We downloaded a contraction timer and had to start timing a few sporadic ones last night, nothing worth calling the doctor over. Come on pain!

Movement: knowing we have an 8lb baby inside of me, I can see why my stomach always looks so distorted when he moves around. Our favorite thing to do at night is watch him try to break free.

Cravings/aversions/eating: I've noticed a huge drop in my appetite in the past few days which is normal.

Sleep: hit or miss, mostly miss. Friday night I had major insomnia and only slept from 3a-7a and 7:30a-9:30a. I've been trying to stay up a little later than usual so I am super tired and fall right asleep. Getting up to pee is the hardest because I am doing it soooo often and it's hard to get comfortable getting back to bed.

Clothes: maternity shirts are now belly shirts... I am ready for my old wardrobe!!!! I'm currently sitting in Jon's boxers and large T shirt (that is snug on my belly)

Workout: existence=workout

Random: It's crazy thinking it could happen at any time but I am just going about my day like everything is normal (with a few contractions here and there). Today we have a construction crew at the house tearing down our old deck and building a new one...I had been a little stressed to have a newborn at home when all this was going on but maybe baby Hart wanted to wait for the deck debut later this week! Today my sister and Embry are coming over, we are going to play and swim, wish E's cousin would come out and join the fun!

I am assuming this will be my last weekly pregnancy update which is crazy and exciting!! I will definitely post on the blog when he is born but it may take me a few days so the best way to keep up with baby Hart will be to follow me on Twitter or Instagram. Thank you all SO much for the love and prayers throughout this entire pregnancy and the excitement during this waiting period! I can't believe that we will have a son any day now and I can't wait to share his name with you!

Hang in there! You're so close! And I know everyone has told you but first babies almost never come on their "due dates". They're just guess dates anyway, right? He'll be here when he's ready!! (I have a friend who was close to 3 weeks over due with both of her boys. She is incredible!) I can't wait to see this little guy of yours!!

(Oh, and I don't wish having your water broken before labor on anyone!! It makes labor SO intense and rapid right from the beginning.)

Lots of prayers and contraction thoughts coming your way from Ohio. :) I loved your comment about exercise=existence. Gave me a little chuckle. :) Looking forward to the first post about the baby and name. I'm behind the times... no facebook, instagram, or twitter. I'm too old! hahahaha :)
