Finish This
Linking up with these ladies (Nicole {Three 31} Lisa {The Coastal Chicster}, and Becky {The Java Mama} Jen {The Arizona Russums}) for a weekly series called Finish This.
1. I know this is weird but...I sleep talk every night and sleep walk a few nights a week. I've always had my own room until freshman year of college and my roomie Alyssa (who I've managed to keep as my BFF ever since!) would be absolutely freaked out by my night talking. And I have no idea I am doing it. Jon keeps a note in his phone with "sleepy Ruthie quotes" and they are quite entertaining. It happens early in my sleep cycle so Jon is often awake when I talk. When Ford was a newborn and still in our room, I would freak out almost every night thinking I fell asleep feeding him and that he was under the covers and strip the bed of our comforter. Y'all I can't make this stuff up. Sleep walking happens less and I can usually wake myself out of it (luckily I've never left our bedroom). Thank God Jon married me.
2. When stopped at a stoplight, I...check my phone (tsk, tsk), and pop my head around to say hello to little Ford. He isn't the biggest fan of his carseat and loves throwing his toys around so I keep a handful of toys up front with me that I can hand back to him if he gets cranky. If toys fail, we rock out to REALLY loud music and I make up songs.
3. My guilty pleasure is...to be honest, I do not feel guilty about it but dessert is my probably-should-be-guilty-about-it pleasure. It's all about moderation folks. I could have eaten the biggest steak and baked potato for dinner but without fail, there is always room for something sweet. Currently my sweet treats are Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches or smores in the microwave with peanut butter. Not that food needs to be justified but I loving knowing I burn an extra 500 calories breastfeeding (wahhhh only a few more months of using that as an excuse). I also workout a few times a week not because I want to lose weight but because I love food and want to eat a lot of it. Pssst.... I am making this hot fudge pie this afternoon to take to a dinner tonight. Yum.
4. My favorite way to unwind...is taking a long, hot shower without a baby staring at me. Since becoming a mom, showers are my escape. Before Ford came along you wouldn't ever find me in the shower longer than 2 minutes but now...I have to force myself out. Every night before bed Jon scratches my head and like a baby, I fall right asleep. Jon and I also LOVE watching reruns of Modern Family. Being showered, in pjs, and in bed watching Mod Fam by 8pm is very common around here. My boss sure does tire me out.
Totally unrelated pictures but every post needs a little Ford...
Ummm do we have the same sized head?

I had the SAME freak-out moments when Crew was a newborn! I always panicked and thought he was under the covers! So glad that has passed!
OMG...since Turner's birth I have done the same thing in my sleep. I'll wake thinking he's in the bed under the covers or fall off the bed on Tate's side of the bed and will feel around trying to grab him until I realize it was all a dream. So weird! We call Turner our lil' Houdini also. He would get out of everything! I also have room for dessert even if I just stuffed myself like crazy!!!
I sleepwalk and sleep talk a ton too. It reached an all time high when my kids were newborns - I'm pretty sure it can be attributed to lack of sleep!
One time my husband woke up and I was sitting up in bed and acting as though I was holding a baby and rocking it back and forth singing to it...only our son was sound asleep in his crib in his bedroom down the hall...can you say freaky? I'm kind of glad I don't have to see myself like that - my husband just thinks it's very funny...
Also, Modern Family reruns are the bomb. Sometimes I let my kids watch with me because most of the jokes go over their head (they're 9 and 6)...but one episode (with Claire being a surrogate for Mitchell) did lead to a VERY in-depth conversation with the 9 year old about the birds and the bees...my bad!!
Jared sleep walks and it is so scary! I have to trick him to come back to our room. I usually just quietly say things like "J it's time for bed" or "time to go to our room for bed". He usually gets it :) Otherwise he just wonders our house. Its WAY creepy. His mom said one time they found him outside when he was 7 or 8. He was just walking around the back yard, luckily, it was fenced in.
TOTALLY LOVE THIS .... and long hot showers, alone, are super nice. I usually take one while Husband and Kamden are having "boy time" together, or I'll wait until Kamden has gone to bed for the night. He's becoming such the awesome-est kid and sleeper. He went 12 hours last night. And Mommy slept through her alarm and didn't wake up until 8:30. I didn't even hear Husband leave for work. Wow, I'm super grateful for sleep. =)

Matt sleep talks too and I keep notes! They are hilarious to read in the morning!!
Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches are the BEST! I think they also have fudgesicles, which are my personal present from the Lord above! ;)
My sister sang Veggie Tales in her sleep; it was amazing.
I have always talked in my sleep! My college roomies are still my BFF's, and Jeff married me so it can't be too bad, right?! Haha I also used to freak out about Noelle in the bed. Like, rip the covers off, turn the lights on, crazy person freak out to find Noelle sleeping soundly in her rock and play. And long, hot showers?! Like a vacation!
Those quotes are hilarious. Cole and I were just talking about sleep-talking this morning! We both do it, but can't ever remember what the other person said!
OMG. The sleep talking. HAHAHA! I love it! :)
Oh my word. SO funny about the sleep talking. I do this, too, but not TOO often. :)
Sometimes sleepwalking/talking/night terrors are attributed to gluten allergies/intolerances. But the newborn thing is fairly normal, good mommy instincts!
