Creamy Sausage and Tomato Pasta

Want to know something funny? I really love Italian food but I hate going out to eat it. For some reason I really have to be craving Italian food to want to go to a restaurant. But who doesn't love pasta, lasagna, ravioli? I have found 2 places here in Austin I really like (Maggiano's and Romeo's) but other than that, I am not the biggest Italian out fan. But we love making it at home. Jon is 1/2 Italian and makes a kick butt homemade sauce and I am constantly looking for ways to cook new Italian dishes at home. This one is a keeper...for sure!

Ingredients
1 lb Italian sausage links (I liked the pre cooked ones that you just have to heat)
1 cup chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (16 ounce) can Italian style diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
5 leaves chopped basil
12 ounces rigatoni or penne pasta
Grated Parmesan

1. Cook the pasta to your liking
2. Meanwhile, cut the sausages into bite sized pieces and brown in a large pot
3. Add the onions and garlic to the sausage pot and saute until onions are soft
4. Pour in the can of diced tomatoes and tomato sauce and heat
5. Pour in the heavy cream and heat through. The longer you cook the sauce, the thicker it will get.
6. Add in the basil and let simmer a few minutes.
7. Add in the cooked pasta and serve topped with Parmesan cheese
