Whirlwind of a weekend

Hi friends, family and new followers, it is good to see you :). Thank you to everyone who tuned in to our House Hunters episode on Friday night, all I can say is wow! At one point, I looked around my living room and thought to myself, 'how did I get so lucky to have all these people in my life'. The texts, emails, tweets, Facebook and blog comments...we really felt the love!

It was incredibly surreal seeing myself and Jon on TV. Watching it live, it didn't seem real and it flew by. We had people over until after 1am (and stayed up til 3 with my sister, record for us!) and it was on in the background throughout the night. It wasn't until late Saturday night Jon and I sat down and watched it again. I must say...Ernie stole the show. Was he not the cutest thing?

 1. Waiting on his friends to comeover
2. Sweet bloggers came to cheer me on
3. My sweet hubby

1. Getting swabbed for Be The Match (my girlfriend works there and swabbed almost all of our guests!)
2. Lots of screen shots but this is my favorite...sleeping Chunky
3. Hey I am on TV!

They showcased my blog quite a bit on the show (and disclaimer...they made me say "this would look great on my blog" a LOT! Cheesy yes but we had nothing to do with editing haha) and I wasn't sure what that would do for my blog. Like I said, the whole thing was surreal and people kept saying, check your blog stats! I love this picture Brittany caught of me looking at my blog. I am excited for what's to come for this little blog of mine!

I didn't have my camera but it was passed around during the night and it was fun looking through pictures people took.

My 2 favorite pictures of the night

It was fun getting comments from people who happened to watch the show and search my blog. I hope you guys stick around :). I had a lot of questions about the show (and about my obsession with fixtures haha) so I thought I'd write a little about our experience...

  • Our producer and crew made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera!! It was never awkward or weird. I can see it being weird to film in front of an audience but we weren't having to do any dramatic acting. Our realtor also kicked butt, if you are in Austin and looking for a realtor, you'd be silly not to use Johnny Henion from Outlaw Real Estate.
  • I am not crazy. Lol! I mean guys come on, who doesn't want all their fixtures to match. They played up that story a LOT. Heck we bought the house with 3 different fixtures in the bathrooms and I am doing just fine with it. Funny thing is they filmed a lot about Jon hating pedestal sinks and it never made it to the show!
  • We did not see the episode before it aired, nor had any idea what the story line would be
  • Jon played competitive ping pong at Baylor in college and now plays at the Austin Table Tennis Club
  • The timing didn't work out for us to film at our old house so we filmed a lot at my parents house. If you want to see a video from our old house, check out this post.
  • I wish they would have shown more of our house AFTER we moved in. Since they've filmed, we have done a LOT to the house. I am thinking of doing a video tour? Would you guys like that?
  • I work in marketing for a software company here in Austin. It was kind of weird how they cut that off?
  • Mine and Jon's faces are on our cornhole boards :-)
  • When they filmed us in the car in Belterra, our check engine light had just turned on and Jon was paranoid it would be shown on the show. And yep, it did. Don't worry we got an oil change!
  • Speaking of Belterra, it is about 45 minutes from Steiner Ranch to give you an idea of how far it was. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere. It would be an hour plus commute to work for me.
  • The 90's comment...hahahahahahah
I am happy to answer any more questions you have about our experience! Now we wanna get on yard crashers for our backyard and room crashers for our media room!

The best part of the whole experience was sharing it with YOU. Thank you for the love, support and being so dang excited for us! We love you!

Your episode was so great Ruthie! Cam and I watched it and loved it :) But I totally agreed, I wish they would have showed more of your house "AFTER". I know you guys have put in a ton of work, and I would loved to see more of the finished product, especially that chevron wall! :)

Long time follower, first time commenter here! My family and I enjoyed watching the show. I felt especially "cool" that I knew which house you picked, but my family did not until the big reveal.

Hi ruthie, I'm one of those new followers! I'm 110%addicted to blogs and house hunters. My hubby and I have it on our DVR and watched the show Friday night. He went back and paused it so I could research ur blog and start following you, which I did. And I'm so glad I did. I think and ur little fam are too cute. I went back and read many, many of your old posts all weekend. We LOVED the home y'all picked and would love to see more after pics, I think a video would be great. So excited I found a new blog to follow.

I didn't see the episode (and don't watch House Hunters), but Sara Hinton sent me over here and y'all are adorable! Plus I love some Baylor friends (sic 'em), so I'm glad to be a new follower!

Yes, do a video tour! Austin was asking me 9384238 questions about things you've done to the house and did I see them on the blog.

I found your blog from watching house hunters and pretty much spent the entire weekend reading all your blog posts. I am obsessed with Ernie and I am so excited to try out some of your recipes (crock pot wooo). Finding an awesome blog gives me the same joy as getting a pair of shoes or jeans on sale!

My husband and I are usually annoyed by some of the people's personalities on HH (probably editing) but we both LOVED you and the husband :) We knew you were both cool in our book the minute we saw the Frenchie!

I am a new follower also - courtesy of HH! I have been addicted to that show for a while and would love to hear more 'behind the scenes stuff'! Would also love to see more pics/video of your lovely new home.

LOVE your blog and loved seeing you on HH. What an adorable couple you are and so awesome that you give all the glory to God. We have lived in Austin (Cedar Park) for the past 4 years and are relocating with our company soon. I will be watching your blog and wishing you all the very, very best of blessings always!

Can you tell us how you got on the show? Just a week before I came across your experience, I had gone on their site to see how to, but it didn't show up that they were accepting new people. Just curious. I have been addicted to that show as I lay here in the hospital.

I would love to see a home tour to see what you guys have done!

Hi Ruthie,

Glad you all had fun watching the show. Just wanted to say it was a pleasure for me to produce your episode. BTW, if anyone you know is interested in being the star of their own episode, give them my contact info. We're ALWAYS looking for couples and families to be on the show and as you know from watching House Hunters, we absolutely love the Austin area.

Thanks!
Babette

I too found your blog b/c of the show. I watch it religiously!! You looked so cute on the show and seemed very natural and likable. We wanted to submit to go on the show when we bought our house 2 years ago but with wedding planning and everything else going on we were just to overwhelmed and didn't think we could fit in those days of filming. Congrats on getting onto this show and good luck on getting on more. BTW, your blog was not small! I think you had 700 something followers before the show but now it looks like you just got 100 more!

I have you listed on my "must reads" and am following you on bloglovin'. You can count me among the new readers from your House Hunters "22 Minutes of Fame!" Love the show and you and your hubby were super cute and totally not annoying (I hate the negative people they often have...never a good word to say about anything). Can't wait to read more...

I LOVED your episode! And your house is gorgeous! I wish they had houses like that and for the same price here in the SF Bay Area. I'm now trying to convince the hubs that he needs to get transferred to the EA in Austin just so we can become home owners. :)

Admitted new follower here because of the show! So glad they highlighted your blog long enough to get a look at the name, so I could find you. Fun episode, and yes, I think a video tour would be great! Haven't read too many past posts, but loving what I have read so far :)

I've followed your blog since y'all found out you were going to be on the show, but didn't get to watch it until last night. Thanks for posting on twitter that it was airing! Did they only show you 3 houses, or did you look at more that they didn't show? I've always wondered!

Julie Keller said...

Ruthie, do you know if the show can be wathed on YouTube, or HGTV at all? Can't wait to see it. I'd love to see a tour of your house - you have mad decorating skills!
