When Jon and I met, we used to spent hours and hours just talking. I think most people can say that about the beginning of their relationship. You want to spend every minute soaking up the newness and getting to know someone's inner being. But for most people that eventually wears off. Call me an optimist but for me and Jon, it has not. We still spend hours talking about everything and nothing. Getting to know each other despite being married for a year and a half. Laughing fits and tickle fights. No we are not still in the honeymoon phase, we genuinely enjoy each others company. Now I am not saying there aren't argument and struggle and disconnect at times because we are human.
Jon and I chose not to have a TV in our bedroom when we moved into our little home after we got married. We wanted our bedroom to be a sacred place where we didn't have distractions. Don't get me wrong, there were times we fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV, just not in our bedroom. Moving into our new house I requested to have a TV in our room because when Jon travels, I like to catch up on the latest trashy episode of Real Housewives and doze off to reruns of Sex and the City. It's new for me and quite fun.
But Jon and I still make it a point to try not to go to bed with the TV on. Lately we haven't watched much TV at all, with the exception of the Olympics and 30 Rock on Netflix. Being so busy, throwing multiple parties and hosting overnight guests, we have begun to really savor the free nights we have together. And why would we want to spend those moments (that come few and far between) glued to the TV. Lately we've been laying on the family room floor, throwing the ball with Ernie, laughing our little hearts out, making up songs, and planning our next vacations. It's always been a rule that we eat at the dinner table without the TV on and it will be a rule for the rest of our lives. We talk about the rose and thorn of our day. We listen to Louis Armstrong on Pandora. We take time to read the bible and pray for our friends. Spending uninterrupted time with Jon is like medicine for my soul and my sanity.
Jon is also loving my new camera lens...
and loving his feet photo bombing
We've kinda gotten into a routine of making sure we are in our bedroom around 10pm. We talk, cuddle, do what married people do...without TV.
It's sad to think how social media has taken over our lives. I will be the first to admit I usually check Twitter and Instagram when I take Ernie out first thing in the morning. So even though we are good about turning the TV off, I'd like to work on unplugging more often. I see a tweet light up on my phone and want to answer right away. And I hate not texting people back. Does anyone else feel the same??
Now before I share more of my husband's photography, I do want to say that there are nights Jon and I spend with our butts parked on the couch catching up on our DVR (in which I am usually multitasking with crafting or blogging and Jon is catching up on work). But we have made it a big priority to spend distraction-less time together. Being married to someone you enjoy spending time with is fun :-)
& yes, most days I come home from work and put on Jon's clothes...I'm sexy and I know it

I love these pictures! Sometimes the most simple evenings are the best. And there is no shame... I come home and immediately put on PJs and put my hair up, too!
you two are seriously the sweetest things!!
I feel ya girl. I almost hate how society has changed us with all this technology at our fingertips. That's why I choose to not blog daily. But then I also hate not responding to texts or comments immediately. There is definitely a fine line. We don't have a TV in the bedroom right now, and I hope it stays that way :) Scott is a huge TV watcher, I could goes days and days without TV or technology :) Loved this post and the pictures!
this is too cute and a really great reminder.
We have talked about taking more tv time away from Ian. He loves to be outside but sometimes he's in front if the tv for a few hours. We also this year decided homework done in the bedroom on his new desk. It's too easy of a distraction.
Ok, we need to have a blogger puppy meet up! I just think that Ernie, Brooklyn, and Bentley would have the BEST time!
We have one in our room as well, but I only use it if I goto bed early, M isn't home, or if I am having a sick day!
Love all the pics!!
The pictures are so cute! What a sweet husband you have!
xo kayla
I want to squeeze Ernie!
These pictures are so precious! I'm heading over to check out your interview right now!
After 4 years of a TV in our bedroom, we got rid of it and I love it! I definitely miss is on lazy Sundays where we would just hang out in bed and watch TV, but overall it's been great. No distractions! :)
I love this. We went without TV in our house for a year, people thought we were insane but we loved it. We learned that when we had cable we watched it a lot, it became part of the routine but then we got rid of it. And we LOVED it. Sure, we would have people that came over that maybe turning on the TV would have been nice, but ultimately it worked for the two of us. Now, we only have basic channels, still no cable, so most of the time as you can imagine - nothing is on, so we don't watch TV. :) Love the photos!
This post was so sweet, Ruthie! :) We also agreed not to have a TV in our bedroom, and we always try to eat dinner at the table with no TV on. Occasionally we break that rule, but for the most part we spent a good couple of hours "unplugged" after work each day. I love talking about our days instead of just being glued to the TV; Jared makes me see the light in a sucky work situation, and I get to hear the crazy things going on in his day. Often we spend our evenings reading, writing and playing Wii together.
Yall are so cute!
Such a good decision to make for your marriage!! We have never had a tv in our room for all 8 years. We decided early on too that it was just not an option. Plus we only have 1 tv in the entire house and we intend to keep it that way with the kids so we can always monitor what they watch and know they aren't up watching it at night in their rooms (like I did as a kid!!). But since we've been staying with my parents, there is a tv in our room and I hate it!!! It's always on, and it's really beginning to drive me nuts. It is so important to have that quiet alone time to talk about the day and whatever else.
What a wonderful reminder. Great post!
Love this! We don't have TV's in any of the bedrooms either. And we turn off the TV during dinner, but like you I think we are more addicted to our phones than the TV so I still have to consciously leave my phone alone sometimes so my lovelies get my full attention!
Jon took some great candid pictures, love them! Even the feet ;)
We don't have a TV in our room either and I love it! I mean, yes there are mornings when I want to lay in bed and watch the Today show but I've gotten over it. I love when we talk/read in bed before going to sleep. We need to do a better job of eating at the table more, thanks for that reminder!
I love your photos, too cute and I want to eat Ernie up!
Thanks for sharing!! I'm getting married in Nov and am so excited for it to be here already! Reading your post has made me even more excited to get to experience this beautiful gift from God. Xoxo
Sweet day!

I love these candid pics. We don't have a TV in our bedroom. I can't even imagine having one in there. I've cut down on shows I watch and I'll admit I do enjoy my TV time when I get home from work but I don't think it compromises our couple time. Awesome that you two have such a great relationship.
We don't have a TV at all which at first was so hard for me because I grew up with one in my room. But you're right It's much better not to have the distractions. I need to work on my phone not being one as well.
Love the pictures!

First of all, can you be any more naturally beautiful??? Gah!! And I hear you about unplugging. We very rarely watch TV in house, besides the Olympics and a few other shows. If we did, my kids would be plopped down in front of it at all times. We take time to do things outside as a family. You guys are onto something! ;)

And that you are!! You are too adorable.. oh and Mr. Ernie total super model! I love how you guys spend your down time .. have to admit really wish the hubs and I had more of it.
Where to start?!? Great pictures! Go Ohio State! haha! My husband and I don't have a TV in our bedroom either. That makes me feel more unplugged!
Great post and loved reading your interview! I can relate on the style question! :-)
How cute! Marrying your best friend makes life more fun! My hubby is my best friend too!!!
I'm new to the public blog world...i have kept mine private since 2007. So I can definitely relate to your interview. You are so cute!
This is so true. TV and social media has taken over our world. My husband and I spend most nights in front of the TV if we don't have plans with friends/family. Even though we spend lots of time watching TV, we still get in good quality talking time. If that wasn't the case, I'd suggest less TV time. Ha. I LOVE your idea of sitting at the table for dinner. We live in a small apartment and the table is right behind the couch so why not just sit on the couch. Ha. When we have kids I for sure want that to be a priority. And omg, ya'll are so sweet. I love that you read the bible and pray for friends at dinner. That's so encouraging!!
I loved this post! I've been watching trashy reality TV for far too long and thankfully I'm finally getting sick of it. So I haven't been watching as much TV as I normally do. Also, I've made a conscious effort not to constantly check Twitter and Facebook. I'm still working on Instagram, but I just enjoy looking at pictures too much. :)
Y'all are so cute. As a fellow blogger, it can be so hard to not be plugged in every second of the day. I'm still figuring out the balance between writing posts and savoring my free time after work. Thanks for sharing how you do it!
