When Jon travels, I ramble

The weirdest things happen to me when Jon travels and I always want to tweet them but for privacy sake, I wait until he is back home. He usually travels 1-2 nights a week which isn't bad most of the time but when it's 3 full days, it sucks. Luckily he comes home this afternoon, yay!

Here are some random ramblings about a traveling husband

  • Ernie huffs and puffs when he sees Jon packing a suitcase and if I am home, he crawls right into my lap
  • Stuff always breaks...our A/C, fence, etc. Never fails!
  • Monday night I saw blue flashing lights outside and crept up to the front window to see what the fuss was about and it was a group of elementary aged kiddos with flashlights and head lights. I was pretty sure it was going to be 10 cop cars and a drug bust and then I remembered I live in the burbs now.
  • You can almost always find me sprawled on the couch wearing Jon's boxers and a ratty tank top, eating chips out of the bag, catching up on TV
  • Lately I have been falling asleep to shows on my laptop in bed
  • Ernie always sleeps in Jon's spot when he is gone. I also tend to sleep sideways.
  • I stay up late when Jon is gone but fall asleep so easy when he is home. I promise I like him :-)
  •  I eat the most random things but it's usually along the lines of cereal, peanut butter sandwiches, entire jars of hummus, ice cream sandwiches or if I am lucky, leftovers. And I usually eat standing up, while simultaneously washing dishes, tweeting, and watching the latest episode of Teen Mom. Last night dinner was spinach dip, pita chips and a Tookies cake in a jar.
  • I like to get chores done when he's gone. I would rather the time Jon IS home be spent doing fun stuff rather than laundry or yard work so if I can, I will mow the lawn and I always do laundry.
  • I also love doing crafts when he's gone. Often times he will come home and find Ernie covered in fabric scraps or dried hot glue on his paws haha
  • I am used to getting 2am text messages from Jon when he gets back to his hotel. He is normally entertaining customers and at their mercy...IT guys sure like to have a good time.

I always make him send me pics when he's gone, he's a total blog husband...I've trained him well.

I used to be scared out of my mind when I would sleep at home alone (we also used to live in a stilted cabin in the woods and would often encounter deer in our driveway) but now it's a piece of cake. Actually remind me not to watch Pretty Little Liars late at night, love that show but it's freaky haha. Do I wish Jon didn't travel? Of course. But he is doing his best to provide and serve our family and it comes with the job. He has a great team of coworkers and always spends his travel time productively. He is good about piling up meetings and being gone for as little time as possible. He also makes it a point to catch up with old friends when he travels to their cities (he is usually in Houston or Dallas every week).

Does your significant other travel? Do you have any weird rituals when he/she does?

My boyfriend just told me he is working on some projects that will require him to be out of town a few days a month. Thankfully, my sister lives really close now so I can make her stay with me!

Fortunately, M doesn't travel for his job, but back to the days of living alone when we were LD, I had some pretty weird habits. I'd spend a lot longer at the gym, make super healthy meals, and watch really trashy TV. Oh and go to bed by like 9 lol

well first I'll start by saying you are just adorable, and like Shay and DDHP's, I just love your relationship. It seems like an example of what a good relationship should be (and hopefully will be for me someday)

secondly, I actually want a husband who travels. My ex traveled A LOT, and though it was hard, I think it made the time I spent with him more precious. I also tend to eat really terribly, watch tv in bed, and get sucked in to MTV reality shows regularly, so I'll totally become that person again when the future hubs leaves.

Thanks for sharing Ruthie! Loving your blog

My guy has never had to travel, but is for his first time with work in a couple weeks!! I'm excited for him bc it's a great opportunity, but I'm also not used to being away from him-- so it will be a weird 3.5 days. Whenever we are apart for other various reasons, we are both super productive- like you said. I like to get laundry and chores done, he catches up on work so that when we ARE back together we can spend it being mushy ;) HAHA- RAMBLE fest comment right here!

My boyfriend used to travel for work for 5 days a week. I actually used to too! I stopped traveling for the past year. Whenever he went out of town, check and re-check to make sure the doors and alarm were on every night. Also, for some reason I would get scared of being in my bathroom when it was dark. I think I watched a Supernatural show about some ghost in bathrooms that scratches your eyes out. Scarred me for life.

Hubby travels on occasion and I stay up way too late. I also craft, clean, and rearrange :) He never knows what he's going to come home to ~ HA!

Cooper and Grace always claim Jake's spot when he's gone too!! :)

My husband doesn't travel for work, but he recently was away for 5 days on a mini-vacation to our cabin. It was really weird being home alone! And it made me even more of a compulsive lock-checker lol

My hubby is gone quite a bit for work. I usually leave all the lights on and carry my phone with me all over the house..just in case a bad guy comes lol!

I can't watch PLL at night even when my husband IS home!! So freaky. Glad you'll have your hubs back soon :)

Haha, Dave and I aren't apart very often, but this definitely sounds like me when we are! I stay up late, eat random "meals" standing up, and veg out on the couch. I love that you wear his boxers. :)

My husband travels a lot for work. I sleep walk a lot when he's gone and it freaks me out because he is not around to make sure I don't leave the house!!
I also snack way more than usual - think I do it just to keep myself occupied maybe.
The kids also like to sleepover in our bed since they don't sleep with us when we're both there!

I'm glad I read this post. RJ just got a job that requires a lot of travel and I have been having a hard time. I'm glad I read this :)

I loved this post, and I feel the same way, I HATE when Cam travels for work. He actually has an upcoming trip planned for work and is going to be gone for almost a week and I'm dreading it already...even though it's so irrational, I get nervous sleeping in our house by myself! But then again we live like out in the woods LOL. I just try to do things to keep myself busy and indulge in things that Cam doesn't really enjoy like getting fro-yo and walking around Target/Marshall's! :)

I also can stay up late when my husband is gone but fall asleep early when he is home. haha! I also eat the most random things as well. No one is there to tell me otherwise!

Omg I live alone and I CANNOT watch PLL when it's dark out! It's so silly but I'm convinced that someone is going to break in my house! Glad someone else feels the same way :)

Sadly I'm the traveling one or the "get home late" worker in our little family - but I notice that there are mysteriously no cups in the sink when I return from trips/long days - I have a feeling that husband drinks straight from the bottle/pitcher when I'm not there.

DH leaves for anywhere from a few week to months and months at a time (our last deployment was 7 months).
I think I almost always sleep on his side of the bed when he's not home.
And I hear you with the staying up late, too. I always stay up later when he's not there. I guess because I don't feel as guilty than when he's home and he's in bed alone :)

Mine travels a lot, and I have the house so clean, then he comes home and BAM. it's a mess!
I watch whatever I want with no complaining (we don't have tv service, so it involves me watching a show on his laptop so I can still use mine for interneting.
Hmm... I usually eat a lot healthier- he tends towards the junk food, and I don't like to cook time-intensive meals by myself if he's home. Our kitchen is a separate room in this house, so if he's home I tend to just grab easy food.
Oh, and I move furniture. And buy furniture. It's kind of a game to see what all he notices!

My husband, also a Jon, has to travel for his job. He is a design engineer and has to visit customers to follow up on products. He is going to China for two weeks next month and he is also going to Houston, TX. When he is gone I stay up super late watching all the TV shows that he hates. And I always let our three puppies sleep in the bed which is not allowed when he is here.

Scott is going on his first solo-tour "gig" to California and Arizona. This means I'll have two weeks alone...the longest we have ever been apart! While I am sad that he will be going, I am happy to do a lot of housework, projects and surprise him when he gets home!! After all, we are engaged now so that means more DIY crafts (or at least that's what I'm telling myself) hahah

Aw this was cute. I want a dog so much now after reading and seeing your Ernie lol Tim is still looking for jobs and sometimes travel comes up. I think I could handle one day a week but I like having my guy with me at night too.

So help me out. Pretty little liars? What exactly is the show about? I'm a greys anatomy, one tree hill, himym, and glee kind of girl. Will I like pll? Lol

It's like a rule of nature that whenever the husband leaves, everything breaks!! My goodness. Whenever Ben was deployed, the worst things would happen! I got to be pretty dang independent, figured out how to fix ALOT of stuff and had to deal with all kinds of repair people and issues. Ahhhh, life. Isn't it fun like that? :)

Arsen traveled for the first time last month, and I made my mom come stay with me AND Arsen had an alarm system installed :) I lived alone before we were married and loved it, but it's so different being alone in a tiny apartment versus a two story house! Someone could be hiding up there! But all that free time to do whatever you want sounds nice...I may be able to adjust if it becomes a regular thing...

Oh how I can relate!! This cracked me up cause as I was reading I was saying, I do that, and that, oh yeah definitely eat on the go. I make BD send me pictures too! I miss his cute face and I NEED to see it haha!

I'll admit it does make time together that much more special.

My husband used to travel for work and I always stayed up way too late when he was gone (I love my husband too :) I think it's because I missed him and didn't like being alone so always ended up watching TV too late.....I also ate random things when he was gone. Too hard to cook for just one. :)

I make it a point to to sleep right in the center in the shape of an X when I have it all to myself and usually about 2 I receive a kid and a dog in the mix.

I swear something always breaks when my man is out of town! Why is that? haha! I usually catch up on a lot of tv, do a lot of housework, and read a lot of blogs. Love the mirror pics! You have taught him well!

You're so cute! When my husband travels it is usually for a week or two and I like to watch DVDs of Friends or The Sound of Music (and others like that). I let my daughter stay in my bed with me and I sleep with a light on outside of the bedroom but I always lock the bedroom door. I also have an escape route ready in case someone breaks in with plans of murder. You know. The usual.

Jason doesn't have to travel for work but if he's ever gone, I am a basket case. I always sleep in the guest room (cuz thats where the TV is) with the hallway light on. I stay up super late and ALWAYS eat at least one bag of doritos.
