Real Life Moments

Yesterday I posted this picture on Instagram with a caption about napping when the baby naps and how I can never seem to nap (yet men can fall asleep in a millisecond)

Someone commented that they love seeing us have fun in my pictures but also love knowing we have real life moments. That got me thinking.... I hope I share enough "real" moments as much as I share fun and exciting stuff. Sure I do have the smiliest baby I know and my marriage is pretty darn awesome, but we are just as human as the next family. There are pits, peaks, funny moments, and moments that make me shout to my husband at 4am "I don't ever want another baby" (yes that did happen last night...come 7am it was no longer true haha)

So in light of all this, I want to share some real life moments from the past week
  • The picture above was not a nap... it was me climbing into bed with Jon who was still sleeping from the night before and Ford was down for his nap. I couldn't fall asleep because I was making 100 non time sensitive lists in my head.
  • I sometimes change Ford's diaper on my bed and last week it was dirty and a piece of poo rolled onto the comforter. Without any thought I scooped it up with a wipe and blotted the area. Gross? You must not be a parent ha.
  • Last week Ford was being so crabby during the day (Wonder Weeks Leap...hold me) and I told Jon I was going to start looking for part time jobs. It was mostly joking but man I was ready to go drop him off for the day to save myself from the incessant whining.
  • Unless we have people over, we are in our bed in between 8-9p every night. We usually play a game or two, watch old Modern Family episodes, or just talk. And 90% of the time I am out cold by 9:30pm. We love it, wouldn't have it any other way.
  • Ernie threw up yellow bile all over the carpet in our room yesterday...awesome smell
  • I've been calling out Jon for being a serial throat clearer...nothing annoys me more!
  • This morning I watched Ford crawl over to Ernie's water bowl and dive right in. Normally I'd grab him and tell him no but I needed a few minutes to just sit. He was absolutely soaked but having the time of his life. Worth it.
You may be thinking, wow first world problems Ruthie, but these are just a few things that came to mind in the 3 minutes I had to write this post. Yogurt covered baby grunting and signing "more"... duty calls.

What "real life" stuff do you have going on right now?

Don't ever worry about that you aren't real on your blog... yours in one of my favorites, because you are real! You talk about the beautiful moments with Ford and Jon but the difficult ones as well.

Reading your blog definitely helps calm down my nerves about having a baby in September! Thanks!

If people knew what happened on our carpets (we have three dogs, two babies and a husband) I am sure no one would be rolling around on them. Yes they have been cleaned numerous times) but still :)
Love this!

Love the real talk Ruthie! Oh boy, we've had a lot going on the past few weeks... Stress from a new job search for the husband, a fight that lasted two days, made up over a game of tennis, our dogs being on the injured list(one with arthritis and one with a torn paw pad)... The list goes on. Thanks for keeping it real.

I get so annoyed with my husbands loud 'cough' all the time. He says he is clearing his throat from a post-nasal drip but I can't stand it. And with a 7 month old in the house, could he be any louder?! I had to laugh when I read this one because I understand you 100%!!

Hahaha! My girlfriend came over with her baby to play in the kiddie pool and when she changed him out of his swimming diaper, some poop rolled on the cement..hilarious! She was so embarrassed. Oh the joys of motherhood to look forward too. And real life for us is in bed by 7:45...it's glorious.

So the throat clearing thing- I thought that was a habit just Parker had! I don't understand why those men clear their throats 50 times, and that was one of the things I had to adjust to when we got married! haha

No worries, Ruthie. You're definitely real :)

I swear my husband is the loudest chewer of all the chewers that ever chewed.

OMG! I love this! Real life moments crack me up... unless they're happening. Then they're not as fun. :)

Real life for me is a 4-year relationship ending and I'm sad, sad, sad. Oh ... and menopause. Good Times.

Yesterday Ben was trying his darndest to keep the kids out of the kitchen long enough for me to eat breakfast alone (I think I got 3 minutes). I hear him yell, "Eli! NO NO NO!" and then he goes running by me holding the diaper Eli had just been wearing and grabbed a paper towel. Eli had walked up to him, started to take off his diaper and as Ben yelled "NO!" he ripped it off and flung the poop across the room. I'm just glad I didn't have to deal with it (for once ;)

Thank you for sharing your real life with us Ruthie! And also thank you for allowing a safe place to vent about the things that may seem silly, but are a big deal to us!

Right now I am struggling with maintaining my new healthy lifestyle of clean eating and working out and also trying to have a social life!

Also this is my first summer as a true working girl and having to give up that freedom has been a struggle - even though I love my job!

XOXO

Real as real can be! The other day, I was out picking up dog poop and grabbed a piece with my hand. I was so grossed out and didn't even realized what had happened! I ran inside to tell Jare and he was like, "yeah... I've done that before." HA!

The real life moments make life crazy and fun. It's what makes me love being a mom more and makes me a better wife. Real life moments challenge me. Everyone person has them...those that don't think that are just down right wrong. Great post...I love your real life moments...a few sound like mine :)

I love this post so much! As a stay at home mom of two little girls (1 and 3) I have so many "real moments" on a day to day basis. This made me feel so much better! And for the record, I was reading another blog the other day and was actually thinking to myself that I love your blog because of how "real" you keep it! You have sick kids too?? That don't always sleep??? :)

My son is 8 months and as soon as I start walking away to do something the crying starts. By the way, I wish I was be in bed by 9pm, but instead of sleeping I'm watching Scandal (season 3) on netflix!!

Thanks for keeping it real Ruthie!

Nice post! Don't worry, we get it, fun stuff is "fun" but we are also parents and humans! My "real moment" now is potty training my toddler, we are on a good start, fingers cross :)

I'm not a parent but I smiled and laughed at the part of Ford having the time of his life in Ernie's water bowl! LOL made my day! Thanks for keeping it real Ruthie! Always much appreciated!

I just have to tell you I just came across your blog and am LOVING it. I'm at a fairly similar life stage right now (no baby yet, but hopefully soon) and so I'm having so much fun reading and catching on your blog. Maybe it's just because I feel like I can relate to you, but I think you seem very real! lol I love the part about going to bed early! My husband and I have been doing that for the past 6 months or so too. It makes me feel like I'm one bad hip away from the geriatric ward but we love it :)
