Sanctuary

Our bedroom is our sanctuary. It's where we sleep, talk in the dark, cuddle in the mornings, read the bible, play with Ernie, try on outfits for each other, share intimacy, watch football late on Sunday nights and much more. It was important for me to make our room cozy, comfortable, and us. It's hard to tell via photos but our room is a bright, yet soft, turquoise (Behr Windwood Spring). It feels like I'm at a spa and I love it so much. It is impossible to be mad when you are surrounded by that color. As much as I love being cuddled on our comfy couch or in the gameroom with 10 blankets making a pallet, there is nothing like your own bed. We recently put a TV in our room when we moved but promised it wouldn't become a regular thing...to watch TV in bed. Yes there are nights we watch TV in bed but I'd say 5-6 nights we go to sleep without it. It is important for a marriage that you can connect and be intimate without the distraction (and obsession) of a TV. The hours and minutes before bedtime I am usually clean and relaxed and there is nothing more I'd rather do than spend time with my husband. I am glad we have a TV in there now so I can watch when Jon travels (and Jon watches football on Sundays and Mondays when I pass out at 10 sometimes).

We moved from a queen to a king bed when we moved and still can't believe how big it is! Even with Ernie in bed with us, there are nights where I reach for Jon and he is zonked at the opposite end of the bed. And when Jon travels and I sleep alone, it swallows me up.

If you follow me on Instagram, you'd know that Jon built me that beautiful headboard as a surprise for my birthday. He used recycled pieces of our old fence and it cost him less than $5. Talk about a bargain. I couldn't stop looking at the beautiful headboard but I knew something was missing...something above the bed. I didn't want to take away from the gorgeous headboard and wanted to keep it simple so I decided to make garland out of my favorite Instagram pictures. Honestly some of my favorite pictures ever are taken with Instagram but stay stuck in my phone and occasionally get their glory on my blog. I've heard of a few places where you can print your Instagram pictures but I did it on my own. I saved my top 35 or so and resized them to 3.72 inches and printed them on my laser printer with photo paper. I cut out each photo, yes this took a little work but I caught up on DVR while cutting. I measured the length of the headboard and added an inch or two (80 inches is what I went with) and cut twine to attach the pictures to. I used masking tape to attach the pictures to the twine, nothing fancy here folks! I used a small nail and looped and knotted the finished garland to hang it on the wall. I am so thrilled with how it looks!! I am excited that I can add another strand of pictures as I take more.

I wish the color of our room photographed better!

So tell me, what is your bedroom decorated like? Did you spent a lot of time planning and decorating? Or is it just another room in the house for you?

I was wondering what you were doing with those instagram photos! I might steal this idea, but for our living room above our TV! I'm so glad that your bedroom is a sanctuary. I feel like decorating ours has been a constant work in progress (we have one photo hung on a little wall.) We have a TV in our room, which we didn't when we first moved to the new apt, and I missed going to bed and M staying in the living room to watch TV...sometimes you like just knowing your other half is there :)

Love the turquoise. I am in the process of updating our bedroom (slightly distracted at the moment) but I painted it blue to make it more cozy and am excited to get some new art and knick knacks in there eventually!

Ruthie!! I want those red pillows with the "love" words on them and the turquoise buttons!

Could you share where you got them? thanks!!

Your room is gorgeous!

Ok. I am OBSESSED with this! Don't be surprised if I turn our bedroom into this room right here. I love every detail. The pictures, the lamps ... those pillows! Gah. Love! You did an awesome job.

I agree with the tv. Sometimes I wish we had one in our bedroom, but typically I never miss it.

Tim and I just moved and were deciding whether or not we want a tv, and I agree with you. We decided not to have any distractions in our "igloo of peace" lol
Love the decor and color!! I want to paint ours but have no clue what color! It's like a gray lavender now. :-/

Cute, cute, cute! I love it!

The hubby and I haven't made it around to decorating our bedroom yet :/ ..honestly, it's beginning to drive me crazy. But buying our home and getting married in one year didn't leave a lot of funds left over to decorate that home! LOL. We were lucky enough to buy a beautiful king sized bed with our wedding money...but that's ALL that's in our bedroom right now! We need a dresser and some nightstands desperately!

This is such a great idea!! It doesn't take away from the headboard at all and still is very personal and simple. Love it!

Beautiful!! It looks amazing! Where did you get the throw pillows for the bed?! I'm always trying to find cute ones (World Market has a good selection) and I love yours!

I totally agree about the bedroom being a sanctuary. John just painted our master bath grey and he's going to paint the bedroom as soon as work slows down. It's also a blue/torquoise color. I want to get white linens for the bathroom, and white and grey bedding. We do have a TV in the room, but I make sure we don't have it on all the time. It is nice though when one of us is tired that we can still go to bed together...one watching a movie and the other sleeping.

Hope you're day is going well!

Oh, this makes me want to really clean up our bedroom & fold the laundry that keeps moving from the bed to the chair and back again. That color really is beautiful. If we weren't renting, I'd love to paint our room. Y'all's looks great :)

I love your room! It looks so artsy! My room is my favorite place in our whole house! Well, I guess it's my husbands room too! And soon to be little Evie's for a short period of time. I'm usually home throughout the day and I spend a great amount of time in there doing all sorts of stuff. Reading, spending time with Jesus, crocheting. I would certainly call my room a Sanctuary as well!

I am loving your pillows and those lamps are gorgeoooous!

Our bedroom is pretty plain. We have yet to fix it up since no one sees it but us. Then again, now sure how long we'll be living here and for now, I'm okay with it. Always on the look out for a nice piece of art or something to hang above our bed too.

It's really cute and I think draws to your amazing headboard! I absolutely love the lamps in your room!

I love what you did! It all looks really great together. Don't be surprised if I do the same thing with some instagram pics! haha And OMG our bedroom needs a major make over. New bedding, decorations, probably better paint. It's the only room in the house that I haven't painted yet :-\

Very cute idea!! And I love all your pillows and the colors in the room. I'm in the process of making a quilt for our bed that I can't wait for it to be finished. It's made of all scrap fabric, old sheets, thrifted sheets, etc. And it will be the focal point to tie our whole room together (you know, once we get into our own place ;) Our bedroom is probably the number one room in the house to be decorated anywhere we live because I'm with you, it needs to be a sanctuary, somewhere relaxing and enjoyable.

Aw, that looks great Ruthie. This inspired me to do something with our master bedroom. I've spent alot of time on the other rooms of the house, that people see, but not much time on our room. Thanks for the inspiration!

Another request for your pillow source! I have some that look similar to your bird pillows. They are by Rodeo Home - is that who made yours? I am trying to find more but can't. Thanks!
