Happy humpday friends. Today I am coming to you for help.
Here is my situation
My husband normally travels 1-2 days a week for work but lately it has been more. No this isn't a boo hoo I miss my other half post (even though that is exactly how I feel haha), I need some workout help. I work full time outside of the home so when Jon is gone for 4 days, little Ernie has to be inside for most of the day. Luckily I work about 15 minutes from home and can come hang with him during lunch and even work from home 1 day a week but I still feel bad. So here is where I need some help. When Jon isn't traveling, I get my workout in during lunch. It rocks! I am home by 5pm with a workout behind me. But when he travels, I can't seem to fit in a workout. Call me crazy but if my pup has been alone for 8 hours, the last thing I'm gonna do is leave him again to get a workout in. I will go to the gym later at night if I don't have something going on but during the week I have small group, friend dates and other stuff going on.
So...
What are some workouts I can do at home??
Yesterday I got home around 5:30p and took Ernie on a short walk. With small group at 7:30 I didn't want to go to the gym so I did my 30 minute Jillian Michaels DVD but I am starting to get bored with it. I also have a pilates DVD but rarely do it. I am not a runner so running outside is out of the question. I would love to get some Zumba DVDs or other fun workout DVDs but don't want to buy one without getting a recommendation. I FINALLY got my bike from college out of my parents garage and back to my house but the tire is flat. I would love to go on a bike ride but we live in the city so I'm not sure I could go for a long time.
I would also love to get some ideas for non DVD, at home workouts. Jumping jacks, squats, lunges?? Anyone have a workout they love to do at home? I should look at Pinterest!
& I just realized today is February 1st!! Rabbit Rabbit. I am heading to the Aloft today for some off-site training for work. Adios

I didn't feel like going to the gym the other night b/c I was pretty sore, so I did Just Dance 3!! It was hilar when Justin walked in to find my bouncing around. It's seriously such a good workout. We need to have our dance party! I have one other workout from Pinterest that I found to be decent for at home. I will email it to you. Looking forward to seeing some of the DVD recommendations!
This is a tough one! I haven't worked out since I got pregnant. Ugh, like what is that, a year and 9 months ago?? Sheesh. It's so hard to find time! Before baby, I used to work out in the morning before work, at like 530 am. I was a crazy person back then. I went to the gym and ran 45 straight minutes.
I also want to try out Zumba. I've heard great things about it. But I can't recommend any DVDs for it. We have P90x, which is a good workout but too long (each dvd is an hour!) and a little intense. Altho I do like the yoga (which lets face it, isn't really working out :) and the cardio ones.
Ya, so that was a lot of rambling with no helpful advice. Sorry about that! I hope you figure something out!
Do you have a set of free weights or a yoga ball at home? ALL my workouts are in home friendly...since that's where I do mine. I can send you the routines if you are interested!
I have Zumba for the Wii, and it is a lot of fun! And surprisingly, they are kinda challenging. Also, if you have OnDemand through your cable provider, they usually have free workout videos on there you can choose from. Hope this helps!
RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT!!!!
I would suggest visiting ToneItUp.com... they have great at home workouts.
I feel the same about leaving my dog. I HATE keeping her in her cage when I'm off work because she's in her cage while I'm at work all day (besides the hour I play with her at lunch). SO I always feel so guilty putting her back in her cage to go workout. BUT I realized I just HAVE to work out. I was taking her running/walking with me but I have a stress fracture and am in a boot now so that's out.
The only thing I can do it ride the stationary bike and lift weights (upperbody only).
You'd be surprised how good of a workout 40 mins on the bike gets you. I took the little bike for granted but man do I work up a sweat. I'd highly recommend it.
Just get your workout in SUPER QUICK so you can go home and spend the rest of the night with little ernie. Thats what I always do.
I think Reecie is ok with her mom working on getting a "hot bod" too ha. JK I bet she has no clue what I'm even doing.
My all-time favorite workout is taking Bailey for a nice long walk. Mommy/Puppy bonding time! :) But, I know it's sometimes not possible with weather. I have some free weights that I'll lift with then do some crunches, plank, lunges and stretch. I also LOVE doing yoga at home. I've been to enough classes now where I can do my own practice. I put on some music, light some candles....it's awesome!
Tone It Up Youtube has the best ideas for workouts. Nice change from DVDS because after you view the video you do not necessarily have to follow along to do the exercises they show http://www.youtube.com/user/ToneItUpcom
Sorry chica, but I'm no help with this one. I don't workout at home...at all. And I'm a runner, so yeah. That would be my "at home" workout... Hopefully these other lovely ladies can help ya out.
I use the Jilian Michaels 30 Day Shred, and I love it! It has three different workouts you can do with varying intensities, so you don't get bored as quickly with it. And, I know this sounds silly, but for carido I have also used Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds". I like the one that is for abs, and I usually use small handweights to bump up the intensity. It is nice for the days you can't get out of the house to work out, and it helped me lose those fun 10 pounds I gained in college. I've gotten both of these DVDs at Target.
my husband is gone just about 3 days a week which leaves me solo in the parent dept...I know how you feel ;)
I few thing we like to do...the park can be a huge work out if it is nice out...chase run up and down the slide...you can even do pull up on the monkey bars!
Turn up the music and dance with your little one. My kids love this...I try to get through 3 songs and swing them, spin them, jump with them...you get a work out and play time.
p.s I am going to have to check out that dvd :)
I did a workout as recommended by Vanessa and it was a good one. Here's her link:

Aw you are just the sweetest mama to Ernie! :) When I dont have time to make it to the gym, I just do a little workout at home. i usually use my exercise ball to do some abs. I also do lunges and squats and a some pushups. That way you are still working all the major parts of your body...oh and I do these weird kicks that tone your behind....got to work those glutes too! Turn on your favorite show or movie and just plop down in front of the TV and start doing some exercises!
We can't do it anymore in our new place, but the "Insanity" DVD's are amazing! I've never had a workout like those in my life!
You should definitely look on pintrest! I travel a lot for work, so I just started a "Travel Fitness" board of a couple things I've found on there so far that take no equipment. So far I've only found two I like, but I'm sure there are TONS out there.
I'm in the same boat! I'm working from home now and the gym is kind of far away so it's hard to go during the day and I need to get a plan in place to workout from home...any workout DVDs you like let us know because I need to get some as well!
you should give blogilates.com a try! I love it!
Have you heard of Leslie Sansone, and her Walk At Home DVD's? It's what I do (not consistantly, it comes in spurts), and I love it. It's simple, and it works.
There are some really good workouts on Pinterest...easy ones. I think one of my faves is the "100 workout". It looks quick and easy but trust me...it's DEFINITELY a work out!!
Also, the girls at toneitup.com post videos every week of different exercises. I think you can do just about all of them at home. :) I Know you said you didn't really want more "videos" but I just love those girls and their workouts are LE-GIT! xoxo
Check pinterest and also check out cross fit. I think that's what it's called... it's where you do intervals at home and can use random stuff you have around the house. Kind of like circuit training.
what is this rabbit rabbit stuff I keep hearing?!
I always use jillian dvds.. i have 30 day shred and no more trouble zones and I LOVE them both!! they are basic exercises like you said lunges, squats, etc. Im sad you are bored with yours :(
I am an Austin blogger too! I just started mine, so it is not as fab as yours and Jenni's, but I would love to hook up and have a "blate" with you ladies! Trying to network in Austin, the best city in the universe!!
xo,
Shanna
