Experience

A week from today is Good Friday and it has been weighing on my heart lately. Our church is hosting a Good Friday Experience next Friday night and has been showing the promo video the past couple of Sundays. I really cannot wait to attend and be fully immersed in God’s love on the day His son was crucified. If you are an Austinite, I invite you to this experience and would be thrilled if you came. There will be music, art, communion

Even if you aren’t local, I encourage you to watch this short promo video

Every time I watch the video, tears well up. The look on Jesus’ face is so calm, humbling, yet so scared and full of pain. One of my current favorite songs is What a Savior by Laura Story. Perfect for the Easter season. Jesus You are stronger, more than any other, Hallelujah what a Savior. I think about his love and passion for his people and His father. What He did for us is so incredible. The Lord sent His son to die so we could live.

You are the way, the truth and the life
You are my joy and my salvation
Stood in my place, taking my shame
Upon your shoulders

I have been thinking a lot about the end of Jesus’ life lately. Jon and I are reading the bible (we are still in the Old Testament but constantly talking about the life of Jesus) and I can’t help but to think about Jesus in the flesh. I look at my husband, almost 29 years old, and think about Jesus walking this earth, just like my husband does. Smiling, laughing, eating, sleeping. It’s hard to believe sometimes that He was here on earth. But when I do think about it, I feel so convicted. So blessed. My heart cries in thanks to the Lord for saving me. What a tiny offering…compared to calvary.

In Him,

Ruthie

"For those who know and follow Jesus, Good Friday presents a unique opportunity to connect at a deeper level to the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross. This year, we’ve creating a self-guided, multi-sensory experience in multiple venues across the McNeil campus in order to help connect hearts and minds to this profound event that occurred 2000 years ago. As you move from station to station, you’ll experience the sights, sounds, and passion of the day that Jesus was crucified and will also be given the opportunity to pray, reflect, and receive communion as part of your overall Good Friday experience. Come at your convenience between the hours of 5 and 9 pm, but be sure to allow yourself at least an hour. " www.gatewaychurch.com

Beautiful post, Ruthie. It's amazing to think that in such a short time he went from Earth to Heaven. I'm glad you are so open about your faith on your blog.

Our church is doing the same event tonight! I'm not going to be able to attend because I'm taking some students to a conference, so I may go check it out at Gateway!

Our church did something like this 2 years ago and it was really powerful! You definitely need to prepare yourself for that kind of service so that your heart is ready to take it all in. This year my pastor said we are going to be having a funeral service for Jesus that night, I'm not really sure what it will be like.
