Our 1st wedding anniversary

All I can say is wow! Thank you so much for all the anniversary love yesterday. We got so many emails, phone calls, comments, texts and tweets. A marriage is not only successful if you love one another but also if you are surrounded by the love of family and friends. Thanks for making us feel so special :-).

The whole weekend was perfect :-)

We started off Saturday with a yummy brunch downtown before visiting the hotel we got married at. It was our first time back since Feb. 5th, 2011 and it was so nostalgic. We brought our tripod and took tons of pictures, trying to recreate some from our wedding. A woman asked if we were doing engagement pictures and we told her it was our anniversary weekend and she was excited because her daughter was getting married there that night.

Where we did our first look last year...

Holding on of our wedding photos...

We want to take a picture of us next year of us holding our wedding picture this year :-)

We then headed to Barton Creek Resort in the Austin Hill Country for a stay-cation. We explored the hotel and were spying on the 2 weddings that were being held that afternoon. I got the most amazing massage and was so relaxed afterward...it was awesome! We also played a lifesized game of chess. I've never played before and Jon loved teaching me. We have a nice set at home that we want to start playing (NERD ALERT!)

We shopped around and had dinner at the Hill Country Galleria nearby. The rest of the night we spent in total relaxation. We drank a bottle of champagne that we were given on our wedding night last year and dug into our year old wedding cake topper which was DELICIOUS (we ate more yesterday and will probably finish it this week!).

We also gave each other our gifts...which I am going to share tomorrow! I took lots of great instagram pics but didn't want to make this post too long...so be sure to check back tomorrow for that!

Sunday morning (our real anniversary), we woke up, had breakfast in bed and were lazy bums until checkout at noon. It was perfect. We went to the late service at church which was amazing. We sat in the 2nd row which never happens since we normally go to the busiest service and it seemed as if God was really speaking to us on that special day. My parents watched Ernie for us this weekend so we went to pick up the chunk and got to hang out with my grandparents a bit who just arrived from Chicago (luckily we will get to see a lot of them over the next month). Unfortunately I was having really bad heartburn and we had to go home. I spent the afternoon curled up in a ball trying to calm the pain. I get heartburn every so often but never this  bad. Luckily it subsided long enough for us to go to a nice dinner downtown. We went to Austin Land and Cattle and let me tell you...if you don't plan on watching the Super Bowl, it is the perfect night for a nice date. Once again, my heart burn got so bad that we had to box  up our huge steaks and go home. I was in tears and told Jon that if anything happened to me, I loved him...yep it was that bad. We spent the rest of the night watching our wedding video and the entire ceremony, cuddling and watching the Puppy Bowl (we did end up watching the end of the Super Bowl).

We decided that we were going to try and make a video every year on our wedding anniversary so we could watch it the next year. We sat on the sofa (in sweats) and made a video recapping the last year, talking about how we celebrated, and what we are hoping for in our 2nd year of marriage. It was really fun and I look forward to watching it in a year from now! The Lord has been so good to us this year and we will continue to invite Him into our lives and into our marriage. 2011 was a huge year for us but we are thinking 2012 could be even bigger. I am the luckiest lady alive to get to spend the rest of my life with Jon. 1 down and forever to go.

Sounds like the perfect weekend! I'm glad the top of your cake was good. We were so worried about ours being terrible, and it didn't help hearing all the stories that cake tops are always horrible the next year - not ours! :) I LOVE the video idea!! Definitely adorable!!

I am mesmorized by your ring. It's honestly stunning! I'm so sorry you had such bad heart burn - I'm a fellow sufferer. Do you take Prilosec or anything when it gets really bad? That always works well for me :-)

Love your idea of making a video to watch on your following anniversary! Wish I would have thought to do that on our anniversary last year. Although I wouldn't want my meltdown to be recorded; I was upset that we'd never be able to celebrate like we did on our wedding day. We never did remember to eat the top of our cake, I'm thinking it's a good idea for a date night sometime.

Taking time to celebrate, truly celebrate, and having fun together is so important. Hang on to that, it gets harder when the kids come but it sounds like your guys will always make it a priority. What fun to make a video every year!

And the pics you took of yourselves are great!

I loved reading about how your anniversary went. I think the idea of doing a video each year is neat..our 1st Anniversary is Dec 23 and he's getting deployed in Jan so it will be a bittersweet memory but I know I'll cherish it :) thanks for the idea.
